A new (NGX) version of the wonderful MD-11

Featured Replies

Ditto here, Luke. Can you imagine 2 years later what the T7 will be like? Looking forward to my first T7 flight from EGLL with Jet Airways next month. Not quite sure which variant they use.

I just installed her again - taking her across the Atlantic tomorrow. It's been too long! I miss long haul ha. With the 777 not seeming too far off the horizon, this will do me until she's released! Don't suppose you know if I can save the panel state in-flight? I know the normal save just saves position, altitude and speed.

The PMDG MD-11 was the first AddOn I bought for any flightsimulator ever. Without it, I maybe would have never spent so much time with flight sims. Without it, I wouldn't even have started to think about a PPL and I wouldn't hold one today.

So, I would really love to see a MD-11 V2, or an updated version of it.

We are never going to get any new planes if all of the developers' time is spent updating old ones...what's next, an update of the Fly! 757?

Any 757 would be nice.

Oh and it'll be a B777-300ER (-:

Thanks for that, Luke. I realised after I had posted that I had in fact flown a Singapore Airlines 777-200 way back in 1999 on a short late evening business shuttle hop from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, and remember boarding walk past the engines and gawping at the sheer size, bigger than the 747-300 I had flown earlier in the day to KL. This will be my first long-haul. Pity I cannot get a T7 flight to the USA in June rather than Delta's 767-400 or A330--??? depending on the day.

this photo made me cry, how dare you post this horror :(  :cray:

I hope no one is offended by me asking this question but this is coming from my limited knowledge of the circumbstances around the MD-11 release.

1. Could it be that the MD-11 did not do very well due to the lengthy development and loss of interest on the part of potential customers?

2. Could it be that unlike the NGX, the MD-11 did not receive as much "marketing" ?

It was said that the NGX sold more in the first day or hour than the MD-11 did over a long period of time. But I am wondering couldn't this have been the case due to the NGX getting much more promotion over the months and weeks leading up to its release?

Also, the features of the NGX were at a level that simmers have never experienced before. So could it have done well simply because (in addition to the 737 being popular) it was a totally new experience that peaked the interest of everyone in the FS community?

My 2 cents

I recently reinstalled my MD-11 and i have to say It was a nice break from the NGX.  I have been enjoying long haul flights again to various destinations with this tri-jet. I I truely believe if PMDG did a MD-11 V2 like with thier 747, It would sell more copies than V1. Its nice to fly a plane thats not a Boeing or  an Airbus. Its great to fly for when its time to switch things up from your usual simming routine.

Well, here you have it PMDG.  You have here a small sample of who likes it and has bought it since the NGX.  All it needs is a cosmetic upgrade to the NGX level. We're not asking for much surely?

The love for this aircraft exceeds the NGX whom is a commoner in comparison.

I am eternally listening to people that are asking how good it is and is it worth getting of which I give a positive reply to.  Tart the cockpit up a bit and you are onto a winner!

my thinking is that the MD-11 is a great plane and very fun to fly. Even real pilots i have met say the MD-11 is one of their most favorites. Since PMDG was not as well know when the MD-11 was released the sales were not very good. Now PMDG is the most known simulator compony. There really wont be a rise in sales in the MD-11 because the majority of people only buy the new addons. If it was given a makeover and placed on the market now it would get much better sales becuase of the reputation of the NGX. I would love to see a new one but anything that comes from PMDG will be amazing.

Huh? We'd released a 737 and 747-400 for FS9 plus the 400X for FSX all prior to the MD-11. The 747 was one of the most successful aircraft in MSFS history before the MD-11 came out...
