Gents-

I want to thank you guys for participating in this thread respectfully.  Topics like this, where one group of users express a strong like for something that other groups of users don't care for-  well... they have a tendency to go up in smoke with invectives being hurled in all directions.

I think it is encouraging to see that the topic was discussed reasonably, without any hysterics.  (Although there were a few truly nut-cracker-crazy theories put forward...  A few of you had us laughing out loud...  literally!)

Anyway- we have stated many times that we have no plans to issue any updates for the MD-11.  The data that we have supports this decision very strongly- no matter what our emotional ties might be to this particular airplane.

We are already looking over the horizon from the 747-400v2.0 and we have some very interesting things coming...   We'll tell you more about them once the 744 is readying for beta testing...

But heck- all of that seems like dreamland- we are still prepping the 777 for her debut!

How true. It was the bees knees with the LDS763.

How is data that the community does not what an update to the MD-11 collected? Apart from prior sales, it would be difficult to determine this wouldn't it? As time goes by, opinions and needs of the community can change. Has it ever been determined exactly why the MD-11 didn't perform well?

While I understand the business side of this decision, how can one be sure that the 747v2 will do as well as the NGX or even the 747 v1?

I am just trying to figure out how developers choose aircrafts they will develop or continue to support. I am always intrigued by this since some choices are flat out great while others....well not so great. There are a large number of individuals who do not voice their opinions on public forums but many of them read public forums to help them determine which aircraft they should buy.

I think they said somewhere that the MD11 was the least popular aircraft they've done, or it sold way below their expectations. When you compare that to the 747  , it's easy to see why they wouldn't want to put the effort into making an MD11X.

Thank you Robert for your comments in this thread.

I am truly flattered that it has eventually attracted your attention.  I am also pleased that it hasn't gone downhill but that shows the respect and love we all have for the MD11.  It's still my favourite even though I spend some time with the NGX enjoyably.

I realise that you may not have made the profit that you hoped for but can you tell me If the fact that It is still selling whether that target has finally been reached at all please? I like it so much that I invested in AoA's superb training which really did show me functions I would never have found had I not subscribed.

Thank you also to Ryan and to know that you guys are now watching this one is very pleasing. I hope that It is helping to repair your efforts if only in praises from very appreciative customers. You can be assured that those with this sim will always respect your quality and will be keen to purchase everything you provide, (including a facelift for the MD) hahaha.

Thats true but I am sure there are reasons for this other than the fact that the 747 is more popular in real life than the MD-11. There must have been external factors such as those I outlined in previous posts. To me, if something doesn't sell very well you have to analyse the reasons why and I am doubtful that the reason is that the community does not like the MD-11.

Also, in 2013 I am sure PMDG has a customer base that did not exist back when the MD-11 was released. So all of this can account for why a product may have done poorly years earlier. What is noteworthy is that you have persons who are only NOW discovering the MD-11.

Huh? We'd released a 737 and 747-400 for FS9 plus the 400X for FSX all prior to the MD-11. The 747 was one of the most successful aircraft in MSFS history before the MD-11 came out...

very interesting didnt know that.

My dreamland often includes the 777 )-:

Unfortunately I had to tell my mum there's a high chance I won't be able to buy her the 777 for Mother's Day next month..

I agree with everyone here.  The PMDG MD-11 is an outstanding FSX/P3D aircraft!  I may fly others, but ALWAYS return to the good old MD-11.  It really is a fine airplane.  Next to the PMDG 747s and 8s, the MD-11F is my go to airplane!  Can't imagine why they would not at least update the capabilities to NGX, but then I don't run the company!  No matter, I'll always enjoy flying the PMDG line of aircraft.  Now, if they would only make their current line X-Plane compatible, we'd be rockin'!  (*** I know I'm dreaming, but it's fun to dream sometimes!).  Go MD-11 Go!

There are alot of pages already so might have missed this point, but why not 3rd party someone with PMDG's permission of course redo the cockpit textures and external aircraft. Like McPhat or something similar to what the HD upgrade was done for the level D in FS9. Since there is no intrest to redo it internally, then it would seem to make sense externally. I dont think we should give up on it. Too nice of an aircraft to put in the hangar.
