50.000 amounts to well over 500 units. That is NOT a small minority in FS addons world.

And most of the folks that care a single bit about this already own the MD-11, so no new sales from them... the commercial difference is in hundreds of dollars, really.

 

 

Although personally I don't see why not, I can understand if PMDG maintans their position.

 

PMDG employs 20 full-time people and have their own offices - not really something you can maintain for the two years of 777 production if $50,000 isn't at at most 10% of sales. 

With all this talk about agreeing to EULA, what if I don't agree with it? can you get your money refunded? Doubt it.

Ok, As I said, me and lot of people can understand for the 747, so why for the MD-11?

Oh yes, if we have a nice MD-11 probably we'll never buy again an other plane...

Before you purchase anything from PMDG there comes up a popup window : ALL PURCHASES ARE NON REFUNDABLE etc. but no mention of EULA?? So no refund either way.

I'm surprised that there is not some sort of  law requiring software developers to present the terms  of the EULA before purchase, it just seems so silly not too, you either have to agree to it or just lose your money. Not bashing PMDG for their EULA, or any other software developer they have to protect there stuff, just the way its presented is baffling lol

If you really didn't agree to the EULA after purchase and you haven't activated the product (as can be seen by PMDG on their server logs) and PMDG won't give a refund then contact your CC company and you will get a refund. If you have activated it after being presented with the EULA then it gets tricky.

 

Though I don't see why anyone would want to get a refund on a PMDG product. If anyone wants to do stuff outside of the EULA then keep it to yourself and don't mention it here.

... i admire PMDG and their products - and i fully respect their EULA.

So if this freeware(!) VC-upgrade must not be distributed, then be it.

Therefore:

This will be my last post here regarding this matter as i for one last time though and nevertheless want to express and point out that i also think, that this freeware VC enhancement could upgrade the MD-11 noticeably and maybe even encourage new customers to pucrchase the MD-11, as it would simply bring back again some life into this classic but sadly also aging aircraft. I can at least imagine this to happen - and i really don't think it would take away potential 777 or NGX customers.

So indeed it could - i mean i can't tell for sure - be a win-win situation for PMDG indeed.

Oly me two - last - cents here though now regarding this matter.

Fair enough - but 10% is not an insignificant minority... 10% will make or break a business.

I wasn't arguing that 10% is insignificant, I was just arguing that these HD textures will affect a small minority of simmers who now won't purchase V2. Obviously it difficult to quantitatively say - it could be 1%, 5%, 10%, who knows? Ultimately though it will lose PMDG money (even at the 1% level they're going to lose thousands of dollars) which is entirely why they stop this kind of activity in the EULA.

VC texture is not hard coded, it's a simple texture in a simple texture folder... like repaint one...

There's a line in the EULA which says something along the lines of "No modifications can be made with the exception of liveries" - I'm not on my FS PC at the moment so can't give you the exact wording.

Was available until AVSIM removed the upload after being in contact with the PMDG so i guess they aren't going to revise their policy or EULA for the MD11 free upgrade either... :(  

It's incredible, bacause PMDG simply said that will never upgrade to 2.0 MD11, so imho would be very appreciated a free upgrade for this wonderful bird.

 

If no other upgrade for md11 will come, where is the problem to upgrade with HD texture for free? Could be PMDG to release this package for free as last service pack, maybe adding the feature to import .wx winds data like in 777, a must for long haul flight.

Riccardo, I believe their answer would be that they would not support such a move and you would be doing it at your own risk.
