A new (NGX) version of the wonderful MD-11

If no other upgrade for md11 will come, where is the problem to upgrade with HD texture for free? Could be PMDG to release this package for free as last service pack

+1 for this :clapping:

Completely agree! Seems selfish.

They should allow Luke to upload his textures to the Avsim library and let everyone know that they are "use at your own risk - no support given".

Yes, completely agree. We could install this package at own risk, knowing no support will be offer for that. But at least we could inject a new look in this wonderful bird.

Personally I love this aircraft and its systems, and vc, in my opinion, is very very good even if is not the "state of the art" compared with NGX.

Please, PMDG could you consider this upgrade?

Seems the EULA is written in stone and cannot be rewritten to accommodate. Perhaps legal costs. But im willing to bet that whatever the costs to make it happen, that this threads enthusiasm would speak for itself and make up for it in donations, or raising the money first to cover the costs and perhaps even make a little off it. In fact if this was available you would have more sales.  Theres one good reason the sales are not that good.... its 79.99!!!  Thats 10.00 less than the ultra modern up to date 777 simulation. Its more than the NGX! At least at that price an option for a VC texture upgrade would make it a little easier to swallow.

I have the 777, NGX and the ol 747 even and it still does not deter me from flying the awesome MD11. Will continue to fly it especially for cargo flights. Being that the project is dead, I dont really see the big deal about prohibiting. If there was a future V2, then I can see it fully warranted. Unless there is some secret PMDG is not telling us.

Of course not, Robert has replied in it (maybe Ryan also) stating the facts of why they are in the position they are in regarding this.

At first I was like "whaa???"

...and then I was like "huh???"

...and then...I dunno...I just kinda got bored because there are so many armchair lawyer opinions intermixed with the actual topic of the thread that I lost interest in what I was supposed to be talking about...

The EULA is just an excuse. PMDG wrote it. People act like legal stuff is all weighty and difficult and complicated. Nonsense. A small addendum would take a few minutes and cost very little. They could easily leave the EULA the way it is and send Luke a note saying "They look great. Upload them to Avsim".

I didn't know you were part of PMDG? You seem to know their business inside out...

Apologies to all at PMDG and this forum. I agree my post was ignorant and it has been deleted.

Pushing PMDG to do another version the PMDG is probably not the right thing. It would mean too much cost versus to little profit. Firstly, that's because the MD-11 was never all that popular especially in the US. Secondly, the current version of the MD-11 is quiet close to NGX/777X quality.

I think their best option would simply be a SP2. Fix the go-around bug, FSActions/PMDG Options menu in CDU, Auto Cruise, Ground Ops, 4096 VC textures. This will take SOME work, but not too much as far I would expect. FSActions/PMDG options should be very easy and quick to integrate, same for Ground Ops. Same for fixing that bug considering they already know the cause. The only thing that will take a bit of work are the VC textures. For the rest, this thing is already good enough the way it is now, no need to re-model the systems and all that. That would be something involving loads and loads of work.

I think a SP2 will also increase the sales of the MD-11. Some tend to forget back when the MD-11 got released, PMDG didn't have as many fans and supporters and it has gotten since the NGX and 777 got released. This would nowadays definitely help with sales of the MD-11 and a SP2 will assist that as well.

Let me start off by stating this very clearly: No offence meant in what follows.

However, how do you know what will and won't take  much work? Depending on the way they coded it, it could be a "drop-in" fix, or it could take weeks/months/years.

I can't remember who exactly mentioned, but "PMDG" have stated they pretty much developed a new way of doing things during the development of the NGX. This, to me, would seem like a big leap forward, but at the same time, a leap that is incompatible with the past. I don't know their coding, or way of doing things, either. However, having followed some quite intensive courses on Object Oriented Programming myself, I can pretty much guarantee this much... If you decide to change your development strategy, that decision is not to be taken lightly, and it will involve quite a few drawbacks. Among which, it will be a lot harder to implement stuff from your new strategy, to your old strategy.

In my eyes, it'll take a LOT more work than most of us realise, for very, very little benefit.

In short, why would they even consider updating this VERY niche product (as proven by sales numbers), when they have so much new stuff still to get through?

TL,DR; Development on the MD-11 has stopped. End of story. No point in discussing this any further, really.

(And don't take this post the wrong way, because I too am saddened by their decision. I sill love the MD-11, she's just got something... Special.)

Let me feed you with the same "medicine" you are giving there...

"However, how do you know what will and won't take  much work?"

I can agree with a thought, that MD-11 (release of it) had a bad timing. So very unfortunate for us. However, I enjoy flying it for years now. IF the release date would be in next 2 months... Ok, I will not make any guess! It's so sad we can't get an update for this fantastic aircraft. All we can do - kindly suggest existing NGX and T7 customers to go and support PMDG (+ bash them hard for MD-11 update  :diablo:)  and specially MD-11! Go and get it guys, it's way more fun than any true Boe, even T7...! I shall not fear those flying objects at me.

I don't. I don't know how they do their coding. But like I said, I do have quite a few hours of OO coding under my belt, and I do see where the " we changed how we do things" can come from. However, I do think PMDG must have a damn good reason to not continue developing it, or they would've done so.

1. They moved on. Especially in terms of the way they code and design. Bringing her "up to spec" would mean a massive redesign. Take a look at the 747X. The 747v2 will not be just an updated version of the 747X. And there's a reason for that.

2. If there was any decent money still to be made on the MD-11, don't you think they would've brought out either an SP2 (which could attract a few more customers, but not a lot) or an updated version (again, a few more customers, but not a lot.)

Why would you "bash" them? Never bite the hand that feeds you ;-)

And what most of us here fail to understand, is that there are quite a few guys who LOVE flying her. I am part of that little group myself. However, PMDG has the sales numbers, and they don't paint a pretty picture. People that didn't buy it, won't respond in this topic.

I don't think they had a bad timing, because any timing would've had the same result. People want to fly what they see in their local airports... Sadly, the MD-11 is not part of that group.
