An airport I heard an A.I. seeking clearance to...:)

Featured Replies

I was en route today from Las Vegas to the seaplane base at Vancouver...and heard a general aircraft A.I. seek clearance for U70 (Cascades, Idaho).

After landing at the seaplane base, I was curious about seeing U70, so shot myself over there into a G.A. parking space. I can see why this A. I. (lol!) wanted to go there.  Crank up all your settings and see just how beautiful the surroundings of this airport is.  Mountains galore. A major river adjacent to the airport which leads into a large lake/valley basin.  I enjoyed taking off and exploring the area. There are so many hundreds of airports you and I haven't even touch and go'ed in, let alone even knew existed.

I have decided to, while en route, to listen to where the A.I. are taking off from and routing to.  This might be fun, after landing to pick two or three of these airports and or airstrips, and see what the A.I. hub-bub is all about, lol!

Cheers!

Hello Sesquashtoo,

Thanks for posting your experience! I just went there in the default Baron 58, and I agree with you, the scenery is amazing. It was a very scenic and picturesque flight, I enjoyed the view from takeoff to landing! It is indeed very fun to just fly around exploring the rich scenery features there, something that I think that most of us don't usually do.

Nice strategy too, listening to AI clearances, and going to those airports. I'm sure I'm gonna discover lots of new airports and sceneries to fly around, and admire the view.

Cheers!

Yup, check out all the videos for Johnson Creek (3U2) on YouTube. I just did a flight there the other day with the Piper Cub. There's a nice 3U2 in the AVSIM library.

The FSX Introduction to Mountain Flying Mission got me hooked on flying in Idaho (ID67, but now called C53)

Checked out Cascades. Very nice. A flight from there to Jackson Hole (KJAC) would be great.

Another thing that's interesting (for me anyways), is to land at an airport that looks interesting from the air while flying around. Then I go online and read about the surrounding town and look at some photos and see what activities the local community has planned. Really puts a "face" on FSX.

A flight from there to Jackson Hole (KJAC) would be great

Yes, it is...Though I am slightly biased ^_^

Another way to pick a destination airport is to look it up on Google Earth. If you have OrbX scenery you can get the Google Earth overlays to see where the airports are (without it, many won't show up in FS). There are often a few Panoramio photos as well so you can see what it looks like in real life.

One nice airport I discovered in Idaho - take off from U79 and fly straight north until you cross the Salmon River. Next to the river, just west of where the river bends from N-W to S-W there's an unlisted airport, Yellow Pine Bar with a few cabins and such. Not sure if it would show up with stock FSX scenery, but there are many really cool airports in the region so at least a few should show up.
