Questions about ILS landing with the Aerosim 787

Featured Replies

I am flying the plane (mostly) fine and well (practiced landing and taking off manually), but then I decided to play around with the auto pilot...only to discover there is no nav/gps switch that I can find! I am also unsure of how to use the ILS frequency codes in this plane. I found the place to enter them in (shift 7 I think) but then what? Do I get a audible tone code? How do I activate that? I know how to do it on the default aircraft in FSX just fine, but this one confuses me and the manual isn't any help.

EDIT:Ok I figured out how to set the autopilot (still working on ILS landing in this plane though) and I figured out how to set the ILS frequency, however I have no idea how to turn the audio beeping code off in this plane! It's so obnoxious hearing it go off every 5 seconds and not being able to turn it off short of turning the audio off. There has to be a way, does anybody here know how to do it in the Aerosim 787?

EDIT 2: I checked every single menu and found nothing. Checked all throughout the manual and found nothing. I also am not entirely sure how to actually DO an ILS landing in this plane. I can enter the frequency and verify through the audio beeping, but I'm not entirely sure how to activate the ILS in the plane itself. There is no nav/gps switch, it's two different switches that the manual is not entirely clear about how to work it.

It mentions something about reaching "top descent" and resetting the altitude will cause the plane to descend on it's own, but I have no idea when I'm at "top descent" or even what that means and the plane doesn't descend on it's own. It's quite confusing.

Nobody has any suggestions?

I do not own the addon, but following the common logic, you should be able to turn off ILS beeper at audio panel (pedestal) like in every modern Boeing aircraft.

For ILS, tune ILS freq at nav radio, set ILS course at MCP, set your navigation display to APP mode via EFIS control panel and you are good to go.

Top of descend is place where your aircraft should pass from cruise portion of flight to descend, in modern aircraft it's calculated by aircraft computer and pilot is only required to reset MCP altitude (select lower altitude), and aircraft will descend by itself. Of course you can do all that manually if you want, or combine AP mods to maximize your efficiency.

Yeah, the other Boeing aircraft I can easily turn the audio off, but on this plane I cannot find the darned audio button, no matter where I look. As for the top of descend, I have read the manual and the tutorial over and over again and it says that I should see it in the progress menu of the CDU menu, but I don't see it ever appear, and even when I set the altitude down, the plane does not automatically lower altitude as it should and I just end up flying over the airport. Even when I manually lower altitude, I cannot figure out how to switch over from GPS to NAV since there is no switch on the plane for it.

What I circled is what the manual says should appear, but in the plane itself when I'm flying it, I see no mention of TD.LxcGX7W.jpg

So nobody here in the Aerosim forum has the 787 even though there's an entire thread about re-paints? I could really use some clarity from people in the know.

You have to edit the flightplan .pln file (it's an XML text file) and replace the cruising altitude with a '1'. You can also enter the height restrictions into the flightplan file. If you do this then the TOC and TOD will work. It's all in the Tutorial document. Use the VNAV and LNAV buttons to set the autopilot and click on AP to switch it on. If you enter the ILS frequency into the FMC, it will automatically pick up the localiser and glideslope. You then click on the APP button for ILS autoland.

There is a tutorial document that goes through it step by step.
