pc for fsx help

my budget will be around £1300-1400, i know the i7 is one of the best to use, so im going to get the i7, but do i get a overclocked one ( up to 4.80ghz) does overclocking cause problems? it will come already clocked from the place im going to get it from

do i go with the i7 3960x or one of the lower ones?

graphics card, gtx 680 should be more then enough as the 690 is mega ££££ but do i go 2gb or 4gb?

1st hard drive/memory?? should this be a ssd? if so what kind of gb and what make etc of harddrive

2nd harddrive where im going to install fsx to 2terra i think ill prob go for, so what make etc

ram? kingston hyperx genisis quad ddr3 1600mhz or beast quad -ddr3 2400mhz
i know 8gb ram would be enough, but would going higher have negative effects or anything? id rather have more then enough so its not useing it to the max if you get me.

is it worth getting a SSD CACHE DRIVE? 20gb

what about a processor cooler?

also help with cooling do i need water cooled or would fan cooled be more then enough??? if so what ones and do you think i need a sound card or would the standard sound card be ok??

I get the impression that you are considering a pre-built overclocked system from pcspecialist.co.uk, if this is the case rather than asking people to recommend hardware that may well not be available to you it would probably be better if you asked if someone could check out their site and suggest an appropriate build for you, or you used their website to configure a build that was within your budget and posted the specifications back here for comments.

yeah it will be overclocked when bought as i dont have a clue, i just need pointed in the right direction, as ill be adding some add on aircraft and scenry

Well the spec I listed from their site is obviously at the top of your budget, the case is personal taste so you might want to change it but other than that the build I've listed would be my reccomendation. Any questions feel free to post back.

Your budget could buy way more than you'll ever need for FSX.

well tbh my budget is 1400 mayb a little more, i want the best i can get from fsx, ive been useing my brothers pc but it just isng up to it, gets low fps when on the ground when in the air can be 150+ so i want a pc that will run 30+ on the ground

it seems to be a good rid but would i need liquid coolent or would a fan cooling system be good enough? and i think id prefer the i7 as theres good reviews on them

check my pc    with a good fsx cfg.    fps are not a problem any more ...

If you could just confirm that you are going to be buying a pre-built pre-overclocked system from pcspecialist.co.uk and that you are not interested in building and overclocking your own computer that would probably help with folks telling you that you could save money by building your own system and offering advice that isn't appropriate. On the other hand if this is an option then we need to start again.

 

PCSpecialist do not offer an air cooler option for their pre-overclocked systems.

 

If you change the processor from an i5 to an i7 on the build I listed it raises the price to £1496, it's up to you if you want to pay the extra but for FSX you will get little to no benefit.

What happens with FSX, unlike 64bit PC games, is that you get a diminishing return on your investment. Like the guys have said, pay £1000 for a SB rig, OC to around 4.5Ghz and you have a perfectly respectable rig capable of running FSX under most scenarios. Beyond which it becomes a personal opinion on whether you think it's worth the additional expense for, what some would see as, very little return. :wink:

im not going to over clock it my self as im not good with computers, so if i was to change the fsx cfg it would help with fps ? im just after something that will run fsx good at low level as my brothers computer jumps when coming into land and his has a very good spec, i7 3770 gtx 680 dont know what others but its a hp pc that cost 1200, i know you could get better for that money aswell
