Application Hang

Recommended Posts

Hello, here we go again.

I decided to create a new thread because after the solution finding about BEX now, today, I got in the middle of the flight, around 1 hour after takeoff the following CTD. Its an AppHang.

Thanks for starting a new post.  It's nice to see the BEX/StackHash CTC is gone.  An AppHang is usually caused by an application external to FSX running in the background on a schedule, like McAfee or other anti-virus programs.  It could also be your weather program if you have real weather turned on when it goes on the Internet to download the latest weather information/data.  That's what happened to me on several occasions until I was able to get into the task manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and end AS2012.  Once I terminated that program, my flight continued successfully when I finally got back into FSX (once you go into the Task Manager) it is very difficult to get back into FSX but I finally got it to open up again and continue by hitting Alt-Enter or Alt-Tab and few times.  It's an FSX bug.  Sometimes you get lucky and get back into FSX immediately, sometimes not.  It is open and running though.  Once I fixed it by going into my default weather program and turning off real world weather.  I believe it is a SimConnect issue.  Since I reinstalled SimConnect about 10 times since reinstalling FSX, I think I have it running properly now.  Once SimConnect is running properly and with Acceleration installed, only two simconnect modules should be located:

C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.60905.0_none_dd92b94d8a196297\SimConnect.dll

C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.61259.0_none_55f5ecdc14f60568\SimConnect.dll

Any other module that runs indicates to me that SimConnect is not properly installed.  In your case you have both of these modules loading PLUS one other:

C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.61242.0_none_e079b46b85043c20\SimConnect.dll.  Version 10.0.61242.0 indicates FSX SP2 is installed and I see no reason why this module should have loaded since you have Acceleration installed.

The last module to load before fsx hanging was icmp.dll.  This module is used by Microsoft for pinging networks, etc.

Windows Live could also be causing a problem as it is running in the background.

Other than the above, I see nothing that could cause FSX to hang.  Microsoft Visual C++ 2005, 2008, and 2010 are properly installed with the latest versions and running properly.  In future runnings of FSX, try disabling your anti-virus program and Windows Live and see if that fixes the problem.

Best regards,

Jim

Hello Jim,

so if I understood well , I have to reinstall SimConnect but how I can do that?

Perhaps another stupid question by me but how I can disable Windows Live?

For Simconnect, goto the following link - http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page then click on SimConnect then look down and click on SimConnect Installation or Troubleshooting.  Sorry but FS Developers won't allow me to directly link you there.  That has all of the information.

I do not have Windows Live but think you can go into the Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) then look under Applications/Processes for Windows Live.  Highlight it and click on end process.

Unfortunately there is nothing showing directly pinpointing the cause of FSX Hanging.  When it does hang, if you wait for 15 minutes or so, will FSX unfreeze and continue?  Here's a link to another software program that investigates Applications Hanging - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/what_is_hang.html.  FSX is a 32 bit program so it should work even if you have a 64 bit Operating System.  Please note the program comes in German too!

Best regards,

Jim

Well, I was waiting not more than 5 mins. If next time happens again I will give it a go and wait for 15 mins and see what happens.

Before i go through all these with simconnect and Windows Live I will disable my antivirus. Also, I remember once you told me to re-install my GEX Europe. Today I went to their site and I saw that they have major updates for their textures. So I will update Europe just in case and if still won't work, then I look for a solution with windows live and simconnect

I checked the link about simconnect and i read about FSX RTM what is RTM?

You said the simconnect is not properly installed. What do you mean by that? I don't remember that i saw anything about simconnect during the FSX installation and all the installation process went fine without any error notification

I just had something similar happening to my flight tonight.  It froze in mid-flight for no apparent reason.  I had to go into the task manager and end the fsx process to quit.  I did get an error message and mine was a BEX error but I fixed mine when I found out the AES program was not on top of my Scenery Library as the program expected.  I had installed another scenery to help out someone else last night and forgot about it.  It was sitting at the top.  Evidently AES does not like to be taken off the top of the Scenery Library.  I see you have this program installed too and you might want to check that.  Once I placed it on top, I flew the same route without any problems.

FSX RTM means the version of FSX that was "released to manufacturing" or the final version of FSX (without SP1 or SP2 or Acceleration).

I said simconnect is not properly installed because one more version of SimConnect, the SP2 version 10.0.61242.0 was loaded in your crash report.  It should not have loaded.  Just the other two versions.  I may be wrong about this though but I have never seen a crash report so far that has the SP2 version loading when Acceleration is installed.  Hopefully you did not install FSX SP2 anywhere during your installations and you uninstalled it before installing Acceleration.

Best regards,

Jim

I do something else. When it freezes I click with the mouse anywhere on the screen then the screen goes white and then the CTD window pops up.

This is strange! I don't have AES . But at my Scenery and SimObject folder, there are many too many airport ground vehicles and they don't functioning as AES. They just move around the airports meaningless. Perhaps they come with the airport addon sceneries I have and I have many

Sorry for the confusion!!  AES, ASE look the same but are different programs.  There have been known issues with ASE - http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/56037-ase-data-fs-issue/.  I would try uninstalling ASE.  There supposedly is an ASE uninstaller in the Aerosoft folder.  It is not really needed to run your Aerosoft products.  At the minimum, uninstall/install ASE.

Best regards,

Jim

I remember something called ASE and I saw it once upon a time sitting at the top of the scenery library but now I think i have not seeing it at the top. I will check it later when i go to my computer.

There is an ASE uninstaller? If it has to be deleted it is not better to delete it from the Windows remove programs?

Do you have QuickTime installed? It adds a load of rubish [allsorts of Ipod and Apple stuff-  really bad Aplless so to say] and with me and a friend of mine it caused hangs of his Laptop and my PC. It is also good  to check what services are running, rather then stopping your anti-virus you'd better check for virusses.

Happy landings,

Joost

You are getting confused.  AES is the Aerosoft program that manages airport jet ways, etc.  That program, when installed, must sit at the top of your Scenery Library at all times.  For me, I added another scenery and AES fell from the top of the Scenery Library and dropped to spot number 2.  I got a freeze during my flight.  I found out AES was not at the top and put it back on top.  I was able to successfully complete the same flight without any issues.

ASE is the program you have installed (it loaded here - LoadedModule[183]=C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Aerosoft\ASE_DATA\AseData.dll).  It is usually installed with Aerosoft airport sceneries and aircraft.  It checks to make sure the airport scenery or aircraft product is installed properly and is properly registered on your computer.  It also looks for updates to your Aerosoft products.  I provided a link in Post #8 that tells you about people getting freezes with this product and Aerosoft evidently fixed it.  The product is really not needed on your computer for your Aerosoft scenery and aircraft to function properly.  It's just a utility.  It can be uninstall ONLY through the Aerosoft menu (Click on Start, All Programs, Aerosoft).  In is not located in the Add/Remove Programs.

Best regards,

Jim

I know AES but I am talking about something that it looked like ASE, or something similar perhaps Im wrong, and it was always on top of the scenery library. I was always wondering what work does this thing. Everytime I was installing an Aerosoft airport this ASE, automatically was on top. Mostly I fly ORBX scenery and the interesting is that with ORBX I never got freezes or CTDs. Most of the trouble comes when I switch to Default Scenery via the ORBX Scenery Manager.

In the default scenery i have many aerosoft airports, the GEX Europe and the FSPilot Ultimate Europe and on top of all, this ASE? I am not sure I will see it tonight perhaps it has another name.

Hello,

sorry I am late of reporting back but I had a flash business trip so I was away nearly a week.

I made a test, a 3 hour flying, and I didn't get any AppHang.

What I did: I deactivate my anti-virus and I made a complete update and re-installation of all my GEX Areas (Europe, North America, Africa and Middle East)

Is the problem solved? I don't know. I hope yes.

Jim, yes you are right. I was wrong. I checked at my scenery library and actually there is Aerosoft AFD and I moved it on top. What this thing is doing?

It's my understanding you do not need to have it installed.  It's just a convenience by Aerosoft to update your Aerosoft products and make sure your products are installed properly and they are properly licensed.  I do not have any Aerosoft product currently installed (I have a lot of their stuff though) so I cannot provide any additional info.

Best regards,

Jim

<p>Jim, Per your response in post #2, I also have 3 simconnect modules loading and I don't have Acceleration. But I do have REX installed. I use it for real weather downloads for textures where I'll be flying then shut it down and use As2012 for my weather during the flight. Possible conflict? The three modules that load are the same versions you listed in your post.</p>
