April 14, 201313 yr @@xxxmikexxx Please read your PM's. Don't want you to miss anything. Message received and understood. What you saw will be changed, it was in anticipation of an unfavorable outcome. I know I'm a guest here and yes, you've been very gracious in the past. In return I contributed $50x3 when it counted and will be happy to do another $50 to show my sincerity. And hello. You folks have done a fine job, I love the new forum software. EDIT: I haven't yet figured out how to do strikeouts so mentally change "will be happy to do" above to "am happy to have done" -- $50 on the way via PayPal. I think that if more people understood what it takes to keep an operation like Avsim on the air and growing, more people would do what I just did.

April 14, 201313 yr Many people do, Mike. They just don't publicly say so. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Maybe I'm wrong, but maybe not ... After the library crash Ied the charge for immediate $50 contributions to Avsim. I believe that my doing it in public was a driver in getting the contributiions in asap rather than over time. When things seemed to be slackening off I did it a second time, and later a third, both in public again, in order to set a good example. You say "many people do". I suspect that even more would do so if their consciences were prodded.

Good for you Mike, but just because many aren't tooting their own horns or looking for public recognition, it doesn't mean that people aren't contributing. Not everyone gives and then screams it out in public. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Regards, Efrain RuizLiveDISPATCH @ http://www.livedispatch.org (CLOSED) ☹️
April 14, 201313 yr Wow is there a section of this thread that is missing.....maybe the middle? I read from Windows 7 to XP and then it jumps straight into a topic about donations but there is no link in the middle.

April 15, 201313 yr Moderator I also have another policy -- Windows XP only. I have a Win7 laptop but the next time I need to use it I'm going to install WinXP SP3 on it. My other three machines are already XP SP3. + 1 to that! And, welcome back, Mike!
April 15, 201313 yr + 1 to that! And, welcome back, Mike! Hi, Alan My wife is on Win7 and hates it. Yet every time I offer to have XP SP3 installed on her machine she refuses -- there is just never a convenient time for her. I'd give her my Lenovo to bridge the conversion time gap but that's the laptop of mine that still has Win7 on it.
April 15, 201313 yr Moderator Mike, I have XP SP3 on both my laptop and desktop. SInce I use older hardware (P4 3.0 single) XP works the best for me. I also have XP Pro on a DVD for backup should I ever buy a new computer. I'm trying to prove a point to myself; that a cheaper, older machine (with a couple little hardware tweaks) will still run FS well enough to have fun with it!

I've got two XP SP2 Home CDs lying around somewhere but the problem is getting appropriate device drivers. That's why I leave it all to Action Computers -- they're experts, I no long am. (Nor do I care to be one anymore.) In effect I'm paying a premium, but I'm also eliminating risk and inconvenience in return for that premium.
April 15, 201313 yr Moderator That's a good way to look at the whole picture. The only things I did to this stock machine were to add a larger PSU, a 1Gb video card & 2gb of RAM. It runs FS 9 at 36 FPS with all of the 'important' sliders to the right. As long as there still are P4 machines out there, I'll use them!
