AOTD for 4/14/13...Ladd Army Airfield, Alaska

Recommended Posts

A way-point for lend-lease aircraft heading to Siberia during WWII. Mostly as I recall P-39's and B-25's. Most to never be seen again.

I was so happy to see that Spring has finally come to Alaska. B)

No, wait, I take it back. There is still plenty of snow.

In fact, it seems that Fairbanks is half snowed in and half clear.

The runway is still covered in snow at Ladd.

Just have to be patient. It will get here some day.

Best regards.

I do think some P-40's went this route also. Parked on the ramp to shut down and get some hot joe.

Back on line, and it would appear the fourth day of Ladd Army airfield. But one just never knows. I sure hope everyone got this one at some point.

Isn't it great? I did this a few days ago, so I figured I wouldn't have to do it again. Wrong!   It showed as not yet acquired on the list. So, I did it again.

And then I landed the Stearman on the frozen river, which is probably pretty risky at this time of the year. :P
