How long do you think it'll be til FSX is gone?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I have given up on civilian flight simming because I never had much luck with FSX despite having a great system. I am really looking forward to a future with new technology being used to its fullest and addons built for a well supported and modern piece of software.

In the meanwhile I have pretty much quit flight simulation (I haven't done anything relating in about 9 months now) - When do you think we'll have a great piece of software we can install, followed by installing some PMDG jets and great addons, and it'll run in a stable and smooth way?

Is X Plane 10 what will offer this?

Also, I'm not a big fan of user made content - I prefer to pay upfront and have a good world to fly in which is supported with updates. I have heard that X Plane 10 is currently quite bland - is it likely in the future that we'll get UTX, GEX, REX style addons in X-Plane 10, so that I can just pay a one off payment and populate my world with great scenery?

FSX wont be gone in 2020 bet some bunny's on it. Get FSX if you want eye candy and visuals fsx is the way to go, but give X-plane demo a try to see if you like it.  Been incremental improvements to X-plane with 10.20, and 10.21 betas and default scenery in some regions exceeds fsx. Think X-plane starting to outdo FSX in certain items, weather fronts and winds, night lighting, highways, but with fsx its still far behind in terms of landmarks and visuals, and interface improvements.

Nothing wrong with user generated scenery it may not be as good looking payware scenery in most cases.  Actually, payware and user-generated I use and enjoy both actually.  UTX is not need for X-plane so much, gex be nice for certain regions yes,  Still, X-plane 10 is little more multi-core usable and gpu used way more than in fsx.  Think X-plane is progressing slowly while FSX just dead fish in terms of updates.

:O another fsx thread in the xp10 forum    I have fsx/p3d installed but I prefer xp10 for more realism in the Airplanes and road systems. FSX ground textures and roads at night are very ugly    As soon as xp10 gets snow textures on ground(we have snowfall) fsx/p3d is going into the "Delete/Recycle" bin.  Also I have "Trees" enabled to Max Settings in xp10 and there's no pop-in.  I hate pop-in stuttering trees in fsx.

I heard through very reputable sources which I cannot disclose without threat of loss of limbs and pulse rate that FSX will be allgone in September of 2097.

Is this when they'll shut down their activation server ?

As to realism in airplanes, see Flightsim.com , Xplane forum, Xplane worlds greatest simulator , page 4 -----regarding university paper on the subject. I agree with the conclusions. Can't link on my Iphone

FS9 is still around and being actively support by addon developers, that software is very nearly 10 years old; FSX is 6 years old.

Unlike FS9 there are no (MS) replacements on the horizon.

P3D is interesting but when companies like PMDG are saying they won't support it other than in a commercial capacity i think people will be reluctant to move.

X-Plane is...well...i desperately want to like it, i have downloaded the demo at least twice, i use it, then delete it ad nauseum.

I think that FSX will be around for at least another 6 years unless there is something radical in the future that people are not aware off.

:LMAO:  :LMAO: could be soon

I think it is a shame this hobby is still reliant on such archaic and poorly coded software.

Hopefully in five years we'll have something usable which doesn't require a huge amount of tweaking. Though hopefully by then I'll be able to afford a flying licence :D

X-plane future with younger users not exposed to days that msfs was only game in town. The merger of train, truck, flying sim is inevitable and X-plane heading that direction slowly. FSX will exist in 2020, but the existing fsx user base will slowly move over to X-plane not because they love X-plane it's because msfs did not develop another flight sim.

In 2020. X-plane by then would far exceed fsx in capabilities and flight gear would catch up to fsx era quality by then. FSX will still exist because of massive add ons and be similar to fs2004 today, but even fs2004 will have user base in 2020.

Will X-Plane be the flightsim of the future? Most likely.

When will FSX die? If XP11 is a huge improvement from XP10 in terms of UI and eye-candy, then FSX will take a big hit when it's released. However, I have doubt that XP11 will really be that much of an improvement, as much as I'd like that. In that case, and what will probably happen, is that FSX will stay strong for a good 8 more years or so, until it doesn't work at all with the newest Windows version, or until X-Plane surpasses it in every aspect.

BTW I have been wondering, how stable is XP10? Assuming one has a high-end system, can one play XP10 for hours at a time without having to worry about the program crashing? That's something that's really been frustrating me on FSX lately. I can't even do an Auckland to Brisbane flight without FSX crashing.

Yes.

Yes.

Well that's one good thing.  ^_^
