Q400 Bouncing at Startup

Recommended Posts

It looks like I solved the problem for me. I did the afinity mask tweak and turned slew off/on, and was able to do my first flight without bouncing.

Actually, the SLEW function does nothing to help on my machine.  At present this aircraft is completely unusable due to this issue:-(

Hi, I also noticed this issue when my first flight. So I edited some of contact point entries in the aircraft.cfg like below,

Looks like  this edit put  bouncing issue down or at lease to weaken. Red and bold texts are change entries.

[contact_points]

point.0=1,  -8.50,  0.00,  -8.00, 1600, 0, 1.83, 46.8, 0.2, 1.0, 0.45, 10.0, 10.0, 0, 260.0, 260.0
point.1=1, -56.50, -14.42,  -9.15, 1600, 0, 2.66, 0.0, 0.3, 1.0, 0.45,  9.0,  9.0, 0, 260.0, 260.0
point.2=1, -56.50,  14.42,  -9.15, 1600, 0, 2.66, 0.0, 0.3, 1.0, 0.45,  9.0,  9.0, 0, 260.0, 260.0

static_pitch = -2.0
static_cg_height = 7.8

Hope this edit will be a hint to your solution..

Hi Guys - Simeon.....If I load the "Q" right away (never loading a DEAULT FSX plane) - I get NO bouncing.  Just thought I'd mention it.

Thanks for a GREAT Aircraft!!!!!!!!  (Oh, and now a great Tutorial!!!!)  Best $60 I've spent this year!! (After Opus and ProATC!)

All best,

Ray L. (Blackbird)

P.S. - not to HiJack - but Guys - what Affinity Mask setting are you using?  Just curious - I currently use Affinity Mask = 14 (I'm on a Q6600).  The plane "drags" (stutters) like crazy at times when taxiing.  However, once in the air - no probs at all - great frame rates!!

Thanks!

Same here, it stutters when taxing, but flying it's just a dream.

Ray, I think it depends on your processor. I had my affinity mask set up by the Bojote website, and it is running at 14.

You need to check the settings in the MJC400 control panel, my stuttering went away when I chose FSX sync.

Those wondering about Affinity Mask, here's what I know:

[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=244 (Quad core w/ HT, 8 threads)

AffinityMask=14 (Quad core no HT, 4 threads)

BTW, the Q400 looks amazing and I'm seriously contemplating a purchase.

Thanks bblackbirdd,
I had mentioned this in an earlier post as a trial.  You are correct in some (most in my case) instances the aircraft does not display that bouncing behavior once loaded without any previous aircraft prior.

Regarding AMsettings:
I have experimented with various settings AM=14 and 7 or 5.  AM=5 tends to yield  much smoother performance for me.  During testing I did have the rare occasion of the start/stop syndrome, but I was not using the AM tweak at the time.

<p>Hi Simeon, Will and other Folk....the Ol' Blackbird here for a moment to say thank you.....AND....</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Last night I tried both Affinity mask=5 and also 7 (rebooting my quadcore in between.  To my surprise, for me, AF=7 is a "Silver bullet", giving no stutter performance on the ground AND in the air...!!!  ????  Don't know why, don't understand all the math behind it....... it just works!!  Hope to do more "testing" today.  </p>

AM=7 also gives me the smoothest performance with this airplane, but I would welcome an explanation of the settings in the ini file that (hopefully) would allow the Q400 code to run on Core0 and, using AM=14, let FSX run on Core1..

AM=14 is what I've been using for years now - and I would prefer to go back to it :unsure:

Definitely going to wait the Majestic Team say something about this before I start messing with my fsx.cfg configuration.

Hi Bert......Ray L (the Ol' Blackbird) here...... while I can't really give any sort of real insight to the whole affinity Mask thing, I would recommend a program I now use all the time - ProLASSO.  I tried it, and was surprised how much it can do (concerning all things CPU).  I think there is a free limited demo (if I remember right.)

Any way, it makes things like Affinity mask setting, CPU priority setting, I/O priority, (and MUCH more!) child's play.

The Options Tab (most impressive!) should keep you busy for a while.  It is a VERY complete program for interacting with your computer (IMHO).  Obviously, a Solid Backup is recommended BEFORE messing with this.  The program is very stable, has a small memory footprint.....all good stuff to go along with FSX.

For me, it was worth the $$.  Here is the download site (yep, it does offer a free trial - just checked:  http://www.bitsum.com/

I have the PRO version.

All best,

Ray L (Blackbird)

Hi again, Folks......the Ol' Blackbird here for a sec.....well, some more "testing"....."Yes Dear, I'm TESTING - very important work going on here!!"  :lol:

I will have to recant what I said earlier about setting AF =7;  it proved to be smooth on the ground, but performance in the air was not as good as with AF=14, and I "borrowed" Will Reynold's idea of syncing FSX and the Q400's FDE...even though I use an UNLIMITED setting for FPS in FSX.  (Does not seem to cause any probs here.....will keep an eye on it....)

For ME - this combo seems the best choice.....just wanted to share info.

Ok - back to our regularly scheduled inflight movie!

Best,

Ray L (Blackbird)
