Wheel Well Fire on Takeoff

Recommended Posts

Not a bug, but I can't find any documentation on this so I'll ask here. Yesterday I took off from KSAN using normal procedures, and about 60 seconds after takeoff I got a fire bell and the WHEEL WELL annunciator behind the throttles lit up red. What could have possibly caused this? I'm fairly certain the parking brakes were off when I hit the TO/GA button and I do not have any random failures enabled in the FMC.

Thanks.

Your brakes were too hot or it's a service-time based failure.

You have a fire in the main wheel well. Page 8.22 (194 in the QRH .pdf file) of the QRH (Quick Reference Handbook) will give you the correct procedure to follow. Basically, lower the landing gear and land at the nearest suitable airport.
