Help! FS9 crashes

Recommended Posts

Is the Nvidia card fan turning (cooling)?

This card (possibly 4 or 5 years old) should not be posting a failure error message.

Did this card come with a new PC or was it put into an older PC?

If you have had render to texture switched on since before your problems began you might try switching it off just to see if the problem goes away. DXT or 32 bit clouds?

I'm running a GeForce GTX 280 it has 1024mb memory. I am also running what would be considered an ancient driver - 185.85 however it seems to be problem free and looks real good. The only drawback is I cannot use Inspector. I have to use Nhancer to tweak the settings but have not had to touch anything for ages anyway. There is a free utility program called GPU-Z that will tell you what the video card is doing as per Vaughans suggestion.

Just got home and I have a quick update. I rolled back my video card drivers to 306.97 and went back to UGGG airport (last night I was getting constant crashes at dusk and dawn at UGGG). Loaded up the sim at noon, then changed the time to both dusk and dawn (just like I was doing last night) and didn't have any crashes. Later I will go to a few of the other airports I had crashes at and see if I can get the sim to crash. If I can't get the sim to crash I am hoping I fixed my problem.

vomar: The fan on the graphic card is working. And I found out the memory on my card is 896MB

mebull: I have used 32 bit clouds from day 1 and these crashes just started happening about 2 weeks ago.

I also use 32 bit clouds however, with render to texture 'off'. Good luck with your planned tests. You may very well be on to something with the driver. The 896Mb ram on the GPU shouldn't be a problem.

I went through all last night going to different airports with different planes, weather, and times of day and I did not have any crashes. So I think rolling back my video drivers fixed my problem (knock on wood!).

I want to thank you guys for all your help. Hopefully my problems did indeed get fixed and I will not need to be posting in the thread anymore!
