Duchess over northern Montana

Recommended Posts

Around Chester, north of Great Falls Montana, the farmland takes on such interesting patterns, all the way to the Canadian border.  I haven't shared any Tileproxy pics from here before--trying to cover new areas.  The Duchess paint is my own creation which I made not long after Just Flight released the Duchess--it's based on a real world livery.

Enjoy the screenshots!

Beautiful country.  I've been there many times, heading up I-15 to the Canadian border at Sweetgrass.  Super lovely in late summer.  I'm really getting to like tileproxy.  Hard to make the move from MSE v2.

If you ever do try Tileproxy, be sure to go to the Tileproxy forum, find where I have posted my proxyuser.ini. That's what allows for such great visuals...I set it up after some trial and error. It does take several moments to first load a flight with my settings, but once loaded the scenery draws keep up with aircraft moving as fast as 300 kts (although once I flew a real time flight in an A320 from Phoenix to Orlando, and the scenery draws stayed caught up). Also the best thing about Tileproxy is it's free!

Do you have to have FSGenesis for it?  Also, do hand placed objects show through?

Are you referring to Tileproxy or MSE?  In the case of Tileproxy no other add-on is needed.  Autogen doesn't show through, but hand placed objects do.  Also, twilight colors cast themselves on the Tileproxy scenery--my recent Grand Canyon shots were the best example of that.

MSE should work in the same manner as Tileproxy when it comes to hand placed objects.  Also there's the free Blue Sky scenery that has good, 1M coverage in a lot of areas.

I might just have to try it.  I've heard it caches pretty well too.

Nice, interesting looking farmland.

What do you think of the Duchess? It seems to fall into the "budget payware" category but other than the fake GNS430 it looks really nice in those shots.

I like the Duchess quite a bit--don't fly it enough, but I find it dollar for dollar the best value I've ever had in the sim.  I also have JF's Robinson R44--a great helicopter.

The Duchess has a lot of little odds and ends that might not add to immersion, but are just fun to have.  The visible passengers vary, depending on the aircraft loadout you set in FSX.  The FSX version (the package includes FSX and FS9 versions) has a fun animation when you take the aircraft "cold and dark".  I can't discuss flight dynamics since I have no real world experience in the Duchess, other than I like the way it feels in the sim.  And overall, I just think the Duchess looks nice--the T-Tail makes it look like a little airliner in the air and on the ground.  I do wish it had more repaint support, especially for U.S. registered liveries.

I would certainly make the decision to buy it again.  I wish JF made more GA aircraft like the Duchess.

Regards,

John
