What happened to my beloved Q400? (Major problems since 1.006 on Win 7)

Featured Replies

So I understand that in 1.006 Majestic tweaked some things for Win 8 users;  but I'm worried about what it may have done for Win 7 users :(

Since 1.006, I have these issues :-

- No sound whatsoever. While FSX is loading the aircraft, it makes some strange Q400 sounds, but once the sim is loaded and the Q400 is on the ground; I have no sounds whatsoever now.

- A lot on random CTDs happening.

- FSX will not close now, after the Q400 has been running.  (Process needs to be killed, to close it).

I have just had to uninstall v1.006 and revert to 1.005 to get my Q400 working again ; but boy do I miss those wing views!

(Win 7 64 bit, had almost no problems in v1.005).

Wait. So your not mad anymore? :) (

Huge complaint - Majestic have really ruined the hobby...

Whats strange? Myself and many have no problems at all. I wunder about this "external" FDE deal sometimes. Only change I have noted in SP is the ability to read VS landing now.

if the wing view is the only thing you long for in 1.006 then copy the internal model file (model/mjc8q400_int.mdl) from the latter and replace the internal model in 1.005.

You will need to install 1.006 first to get the new model file.

Thanks Samdim.

I will do that for now - while I investigate the causes of my new issues (as they clearly aren't affecting the majority of Win 7 users, so are almost certainly local to my config).

@@RWFeldman - Perhaps you misunderstood the intent of that post that you linked, or perhaps you're just the sort of guy who takes pleasure in snipes and bad intent. Either way, what has this issue got to do with the praise that I gave in that linked post? ......... It all still stands.... I simply have a new issue with 1.006 that's all. I'm 100% confident it will be fixed soon. Why make something out of nothing? ....... Bored ?

This does happen to me i.e. strange noise whilst flight is loading and no sound (or very, very low) outside, I do not, however, crash to desktop.

Hey Milke, I get some kind of noise. Once I have chosen the aircraft, even before launching a flight, I get this stupid banging noise as though someone is trying to get into the room by banging on the door!!!

So we know the sound is there, it's just getting it to play at the right places..;-)

Try to press S to go out, than back to VC. Sometimes on my machine this happens too after reposition that the sound is missing till I do this

All working here fine including sound on Win7 64 bit...

I noticed that the un-installer (v1.005) left all files in place so I made sure to deleted the whole folder before installing V1.006...

So a clean install as admin is maybe something you could try ;-)

Interesting to see that it may not just be my system experiencing these v1.006 'gremlins' after all.

@Rockliffe - I get the "banging on the door" sound issue too! (only in 1.006).

I have re-installed v1.006 again (as a clean install), and after 3 flights (2 hours) the sound is fine and no CTDs.      FSX does still hang now though, and has to be 'process killed', which was never the case on my system with v1.005.

Thanks - I'll try this if the sound disappearance happens again.

It does seem that the awesome Q400 is slightly more sensitive to OS usage (Win 7 / Win 8) than most other add-ons...   maybe because of all of the 'external to FSX' modelling and processing that takes place?

Perhaps, going forward, the product needs installer options for Win 7 and Win 8, to cover both angles.

As a general (non-evidenced) observation, it seemed that after 1.005 release, the Win 8 guys had a few more bugs, but v1.006 seems to have cleared those up, but possibly introduced some instability for Win 7.        Maybe not though - early days.

We are investigating the issue with the crash on closing. If anyone has that and would like to help, I would ask you to report to [email protected] :)

Shot in the dark with the sound issues but try installing the manual version of the DirectX update:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

This happens with the NGX occasionally for some users too post-SP1c install and it's almost always related to those DirectX files - believe the Q400 is using the same runtimes.

Nice suggestion Ryan, but no joy I'm afraid.

Just instaslled the lastest patch  and the only issue i got  as per everyone else  is  the sound   on the splash screen when you load up the q400,  but nothing  major to worry about, everything  else seems to work with no other issues

This is something I've noticed, albeit a little more subtly, on the Lancair Legacy and Baytower's RV-7.

Don't know what causes it but it's like the sonic equivalent of the model finding its origin point with the surfaces in the 3d world upon load.

DC-6 have you tried reloading your plane after the 3d render engine has started? Alt-A-A?
