Questions to existing customers before buying the plane

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I am on and on to buy that plane but I got some fails the last time where the planes haven't reached my level of simulation (DC9, CS777, BAE146) and don't want to buy another one and deleting it afterwards.

So I have some question, maybe the one or other can answer them?

1. Which level of simulation is this product? Is this a complex one like PMDG MD11, 737 or medium like the AXE, QW BAE or UltimateAirliners DC9 or is this low end simulation like the cls ones and justflight lite ones?

2. Is IRS simulated correctly? Is there any map shift simulated?

3. Is the hydraulics-, fuel and electric system simulated correctly? How's about air conditioning? Is there a hearable sound when switching on packs like I heard my last time in jumpseat?

4. Are there tools for planning the flight and doing fuel calculation?

5. I do not know whether the Dash has a APU or run's one engine without turning the prop. But is this feature also simulated?

Kind regards,

Stefan Sondermann

Hi,

To answer what I can:

1. PMDG level, but the basic version doesn't have failures. Once the Pro and Training versions come out even more so, and will add many failure options. More information on those versions and the differences in the versions are here: http://majesticsoftware.com/mjc8q400/products.html

2. Haven't messed around with the IRS too much, so can't honestly answer that one.

3. Yes, you can see the hydraulic standby and whole system actually providing pressure, controls don't move around without that pressure. Also nose steering is implemented. As for A/C, the packs have MIN, NORM, and MAX settings, all with their own level of sound. Even the RECIRC has sound.

4. There is a tool for loading your fuel and payload (as well as for configuring the setup of the aircraft in terms of controls and the sim), but no tool for loading flightplans or planning your fuel. The tutorial gives a good description of how to fuel plan with the Q400 though.

5. The Q400 does have an APU, and it is simulated. It also has great sound for it in spot view! You can also run SETI, and it handles much nicer than other aircraft when doing so. I find it much easier to control than other multi's, due to FSX limitations etc. The battery system does drain, and luckily is outside of the FSX limitation on that.

Hope this helps! It's a great aircraft, worth every penny to me. I would investigate further on what's to come on the Pro version, that version seems right up your alley!

Kyle

Wow... ok a must have then.

Just one other question: how fast is the APU started? Unrealisically within some seconds like a DC9 implementation or does this have a spoolup time?

Is the IRS simulated so you can do switching it on/off or isn't even this possible like BlackBox A320?

Give me 5 I'll test both

APU takes a realistic amount of start up time (I'd guess around 30 seconds) but bear in mind that the real Q400 has a small APU that doesn't have a long spool up time any way.

To me, all things considered, this is the most realistic airliner simulation ever created for FS. The fact that it is also a turbo-prop (something notoriously hard to simulate properly in FS) makes it even more striking.

I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Whilst I am honestly not bashing the wonderful PMDG NGX (and I have around 500 hours in it), I recently got into the NGX VC, after having flown nothing but the Q400 for 2 weeks, and I found myself looking on somewhat disappointedly and critically at the VC; and especially that in the NGX, I had to turn down scenery, weather and traffic settings to get my magical 30 FPS, whereas in the Q400, I can run everything almost maxed, and still get stunning frame rate performance.

Okay, the APU powered up and started, available to provide power in about 30 seconds. Seems quick on that, but I don't know how fast the RW counterpart can spin up.

Now, on the ground, the IRS did reset after being in the OFF position. Putting back to NAV, alignment took 10 minutes, almost exactly.

Here's a pic of the FMS showing it's aligning:

Thanks guy's. So I do not have another option than to buy that wonderful thing.

Kind regards,

and in case you are not yet convinced...I have had this aircraft for about two weeks now.

I have been so immersed in learning how it works that I hadn't

looked carefully at the outside until this evening.

I am already stunned by the quality and level of detail of the VC

and was stunned again by the exterior.

The propeller animation is the best I have ever seen in FSX or any other simulator.

The blades spool up fluidly with only one tiny stutter between individual blades spinning and the blurred motion.

The APU and engine sounds are totally faultless.

An unskilled virtual pilot though I am, this aircraft has completely captured my interest, to the exclusion of all

my other aircraft, some also very detailed but none as totally immersive as this one.

The key, I think, is that everything does exactly as it should, so there is a true feeling of being in control of it,

there seem to be no compromises and I have found nothing that has made me think of a similar workaround

in another model, so often the case within the limits of FSX, which this aircraft magnificently ignores.

It does all this with the impact on FSX of the default Cessna 172 so it can be flown with the most complex scenery

and the highest settings with no ill effects at all.

I date back to FS5 (and 1952 in age) and this is the most excellent flight simulator experience I have ever enjoyed.

I now need to learn how to navigate, operate the systems and fly it better and its quality is persuading me to do just

that.

Regards,

Nick.

One of the best airplanes ever released for a flight simulator. Maybe the best.

+1

This aircraft is amazing and like most here the NGX has had it's hours cut by half.

Interesting thread-  I have read about some revolutionary programming that occurred with this product so that it runs outside of the FSX core almost completely.  From everything I've read, both in this thread and at AVSIM in general, says it has a stunning FM.  One question-  how is the VC lighting?  I have never been inside of a Q400 so know absolutely nothing about it, let alone what the VC lighting should even look like, but any feedback would be appreciated.  Like the OP, I have been thinking about this for a bit and am on the verge on committing  :)

Thanks,  Bruce.

Hey Bruce,

I'll let a screenie do the talking, took this the first day I had it:

It's lovely. There's main panel lighting, overhead lighting, center pedestal lighting, circuit breaker lighting, map light next to you, storm and dome lighting as well.

Who could resist that?  i'm doomed....  :)
