Most of the time the STOP 0124 BSOD means a hardware problem but it could also be a driver issue too.  Most hardware issues are caused by incorrect frequency/timings/and voltage settings for your computer memory.  If you did not install your system memory or change any of the settings in the BIOS, most likely this is not the problem.  Did you recently install a new driver, like a video card driver?  You can try restoring your computer to a time and date before the crashes occurred and see if that fixes the problem.  Just click on the Start button and type restore in the search box then look up in the menu and click on System Restore.  Follow the prompts.  If you added a new piece of hardware like a new throttle, joystick, etc., suspect that as the cause.  The BSOD was not caused by FSX.

Best regards,

Jim

I would also check to make sure all of your computer drivers are up-to-date.  I use a driver scanner to periodically check for hardware and system updates.  I use Driver Scanner - http://www.uniblue.com/software/driverscanner/.  This program is freeware when you install it and run it.  It will look for new drivers and, if they are found, the program will show you which drivers are out of date and ask you if you want the program to download and install the updates.  If you answer yes, you will then have to pay for the program (think a yearly subscription is $30).  You can also look at what the program found and go to the individual websites where the drivers are located, download, and install them yourself.  There will probably be a lot of new updated drivers required.  I run the program weekly and it usually finds 2 or 3 updated drivers.  The most important updates are for your USB ports, your HDD's, and system bus.  It does a very good job updating them and runs a system restore before it does anything so it is pretty safe.

If you recently changed any of the memory settings, then let me know and we'll try to troubleshoot that problem.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks for the reply

i think that issue was caused by my overclock settings

i decided today to do my regular, Windows reinstall

so therefore im going to be doing a FSX reinstall ofcourse, im going to follow what ive read here

i have adjusted my overclock and ran bench marking and it seems stable now

i will report the findings as i go

Thanks again for the help

Jaime Horton

Okay.  That's a shame you have to go through a reinstall again.  You're right at the very limits of a max OC with your non-K series 2600.  I know it can be oc'd to 4.2 but be careful especially with voltages.  FYI, when I oc'd the first time I ran a series of benchmarks (like Prime95, Intel Burn Test, etc.) and passed with flying colors.  Then I ran FSX and got periodic BSOD's.  Turned out to be I did not set the frequency, timings, and dram voltages properly and used the "Auto" setting instead.  I read somewhere that ASUS was having issues configuring memory on their MB's so I did it manually and no more BSOD's.  Good luck with your reinstall.

Best regards,

Jim
