Anyone using Apollo AirMap?

Recommended Posts

Hi Avsim pilots

until we have uploaded it to avsim, you can try our free demo version of APOLLO AirMap from our web site, time unlimited.

works with xplane 32/64, Windows Vista/ Windows7 /Windows 8.

This should give you an idea how it works before you decide to purchase it:

How do you get the sectionals and charts into this and where do they come from?

I mean, do you have to sit and install all of these maps and charts, or does it get the live feed off of the internet?

I don't see anywhere where it explains how the maps and charts get into this software.  Do they have to be installed manually?

Robert, I really don't know... I might download and try to run it on my X-Plane10 demo, but I now see I have a problem... The XP10 demo area is confined to Seattle, and apparently the Apollo demo only works for Innsbruck and Hilo, Hawaii :-/

On  page 56 of http://apollosoftware.com/Products/Airmap/Manuals/AirMapGXP_e.pdf

I believe they describe how to manually edit the user Maps...

the basic product comes with:

world wide aerial + road maps off the internet,(requires xplane be online)

Open Street Maps

IFR low & high Altitude enroute charts USA + atlantic + pacific
Airport diagrams for most US Class B airports

VFR sectionals, topo, ICAO and Jeppesen, terrain Radar charts can be purchased separately and will be merged automatically.

Users can import charts manually if they wish, but that should normally not be necessary.

It runs either on local or remote network pc, or both simultaneously, with virtually no frame rate degradation in xplane whatsoever, because it uses latest DirectX11 and GPU programming.

panel can be resized up to full monitor resolutions of 1900x1200 or higher for excellent clarity.

works with any default or add-on aircraft. xplane 9.7 & xplane10 x32/x64

Ok, so it sounds like it is basically "plug-and-play". This would be much more attractive than having to spend hours formating and installing individual charts. I'm lazy....less work is good.

Approximately how many airport diagrams does the Apollo come with?

Also, are the enroute charts for the whole world?

we thought pilots want to fly, not have to program or create charts etc.

therefore you can simply install those charts that you purchased and they will display automatically as you enter the corresponding area. the MAP button lets you switch, "on the fly" between all map types you might have installed for any particular area.
