FTX Global Who is Gonna Buy!

Featured Replies

I'll buy it when it is released.

I like the idea of having ORBX textures all around the world. It will not be perfect in all areas at 1st, but JV intents on updating the LC. The one thing I'm looking forward to is the improved night lighting.

There are many videos and pics on the FTX site. Do yourself a favor and visit the FTX forums for daily updates. The product is scheduled to be released on June 15, 2013, JV's birthday. :O

The beauty  of it is that it can be enhanced by other landclass products like UTX, etc while we wait for better landclass provided by Orbx. And it will  also improve FTX region compitability with other non Orbx products alltough the switcher will still be there because of the autogen switching(I don't think that will be solved unfortunatly), but the "ghost" textures will be gone when leaving FTX regions, only have to switch to get the correct autogen if needed.

According to JV, FTX regions will work seamlessly with FTX Global.

I'll simply enable and disable the regions.

Yes but the autogen issue still persists, so if you want the correct autogen flying from one FTX region to another you'll still have to switch. He said that solving this would take a lot of time and money so they are not going to do that...as he said they just don't have the budget(we can still hope someday they'll decide to fix it)

quote from JV 29th of may:

"Sorry to burst your bubbles but we can't get rid of the switcher completely. You will be able to fly between FTX regions without any issues but we cannot provide a single set of autogen building and tree textures for the whole world without a major re-engineering of all our autogen for all regions. So initially we will use FTX Central to let you choose which autogen set you want to see when you land.

This does not impact trans-ocean or trans-region flights, they will work fine without needing to exit the sim, but you may see some slight autogen texture oddities.

Holger and I have discussed a potential future project to re-do all our autogen from AU onwards but that is a massive undertaking. We learnt a lot about making custom autogen about 3-4 years after we made FTX AU and you see a lot of this in NZ and EU, but to go back to retrospectively change it for NA and AU is a huge project, something we just don't have budget for given our current revenues."

I prefer the current control panel. I paid a lot of money for all the regions and I want each region to still work individually. I don't want the same AG everywhere. If that's the case, then why have regions?

Plus, it's a huge financial undertaking. As long as I can enable/disable all the regions, then I'll be content.

Theres a lot more to the regions than just the autogen, there's mesh, correct detailed landclass and sometimes photoreal content. But as said, you still can use the switcher to get the correct autogen, but you can also fly between regions now with only some slight autogen texture oddities if you decide not to use the switch, and no more of the "ghost" ground textures. So even if the autogen switch still is there, It's a leap forward. And e.g flying from EU England to lets say FTX Global France without switching you would hardly notice any oddities I think, but when flying from e.g FTX EU England to FTX AU you will maybe notice it some more, but it will still be better than it is currently...(Correct me if I'm wrong)

I never buy anything that is 'Version 1', be it software, hardware or home appliances!

FTX Global should be a good product but not on 'Day One'.

I have bought all Orbx sceneries on day one and all has been good products on release and as times pass by service packs have been added to make it even better. So Im confident that the same goes for FTX Global....(The "f..boy" in me has awakened  )

It does look fantastic as I've been following all the preview shots at the ORBX forum.  I'll wait a little while to buy it, but I may not have a choice as soon I'll be on vacation overseas for a few weeks without my precious FSX laptop.  I'll be looking forward to reading what people have to say about it for sure.

As a confirmed fanboi of ORBX scenery, my PayPal account is twitching in anticipation.

That being said, I am still exploring PNW, NRM, and CRM and will be happy to do so for the summer. Hell, I haven't even gone north of KORS to explore Pacific Fjords yet!

Unless of course the FTS Global reviews upon release are fantabulous...

As much as I'm looking forward to this, I'm not buying it until it's been out for a while.  I want to see a lot more user screenshots and user reviews.  The ORBX team has been releasing screenshots for several weeks now, but they almost exclusively show urban areas.  They seem very reluctant to show vegetative and rural textures.  I'm a little suspicious that they're not showing us more variety.  Hopefully, they're still working on these and just aren't ready to show them yet.

My concern is that ORBX ends up simply recycling existing textures that it uses for its scenery region packages and calling these for areas of the world where they should instead make a whole new texture set like GEX has done.  I remain hopeful that they'll do the right thing and make custom textures where they're needed.

Definitely not day 1 for me - I want to see how the whole FTX Central thing actually falls out before deciding.  As for the screenshots, I'm also anxious to see others not done by the team.

I'm also surprised that some still think this product makes Orbx regions obsolete.  This has been addressed and reiterated many times.  FTX Global does NOT suddenly make the whole world the quality of an Orbx region for many reasons.

I'm still thinking this product might have generated so much excitement (as much or more by the community as Orbx themselves) that the reality will disappoint some.  We shall see.

Not day one for me,  but that is job related (kind of up in the air right now),  and once that is resolved,  it's almost a sure thing.  I want to fly around where I grew up (Wisconsin),  and stock FSX just doesn't do it for me in that area.  Also,  I just can't fly anywhere other than the "regions"  anymore,  I would love to be able to do a little more "exploration" in the rest of the United States.

edit:  I do realize what the product will,  and will not, do.  I don't expect it to be anywhere as accurate as their regions.  Still,  I am looking for a major increase in "reality",  we'll have to wait and see,  I suppose.

I was thinking about waiting for the reviews first, but this looks really good. Will probably get it the day it gets released.

Jeff Thomson

Probably not going to buy it even if the screenshots look quite nice!

I am mostly into VFR flying and I just do not see a benefit from replacing one generic texture with another generic texture.

I love doing some sight-seeing while flying and I would definitly miss the variety of the landscape and the sheer amount of navigational aids that only photo sceneries can offer.
