June 3, 201313 yr I did a test with the regions. When I have night ligthning on I see ligthning at night but not at day time, but the light poles are still there..I can't imagine it would be any different with FTX Global... http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/59319-ftx-global-ftx-night-mode-transition-day-to-night/ "FTX Day = Lights in FTX Global at night only - no lights in FTX scenery FTX Night = Lights in FTX Global always on 24/7 - lights at dawn/dusk/night only in FTX scenery" So if you fly out of an FTX scenery region, but a FTX global area, the lights will be on, and I believe visible, even in the day time. They changed the code for the lighting so there is '0 fps' impact. Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
June 3, 201313 yr I forgot to mention, that my problems are terrain/mesh related. When I get home, I will quote a post where JV mentions that the FTXG initial release will be only textures and nothing related to mesh/(some lookup thing) that is causing all kinds of weird things with terrain. Yeah, the orbx lclookup.bgl file is what's causing the trouble. This has been fixed already in the alpha, only thing that remains to be fixed is the autogen issue...but unfortunetly that issue will not be fixed as they don't have the time nor the resources to fix it. Read my quote a few posts above there he explains why they will not fix it... http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/59319-ftx-global-ftx-night-mode-transition-day-to-night/ "FTX Day = Lights in FTX Global at night only - no lights in FTX scenery FTX Night = Lights in FTX Global always on 24/7 - lights at dawn/dusk/night only in FTX scenery" So if you fly out of an FTX scenery region, but a FTX global area, the lights will be on, and I believe visible, even in the day time. Can't understand why they haven't made it the same way as it is now <_< They take one step forward and tree steps backwards...well I guess we can't get it all -_-

June 3, 201313 yr I now own FTX England and Wales, and believe that they are excellent products. Previously I thought that the state of the practice was the France VFR Regional sceneries, of which I had purchased all of them in FS2004 and then when I went to FSX purchased them again. Then ORBX FTX England and Wales came out and I bought them. My opinion is that they are a noticeable improvement over France VFR (or anything else that I see screenshots of on the various flight simulating and product websites). Several weeks ago I discovered that FTX is not compatible with France VFR autogen - you can't have them both enabled in the same flight. The problem is evidently not ORBX's making, but is a constraint in the way FSX deals with autogen files. I have since decided to not worry about this incompatibility. France VFR hasn't released a new VFR Regional product in some years, whereas ORBX seems to be a well-funded enterprise with plans for ongoing developing in the future, so I am willing to just buy their products and those that make their products compatible with ORBX products. I am all for competition, but I believe this is a case of a developer who has produced a product that will appeal to a very large audience who seek this kind of product and this kind of quality. June 3, 201313 yr I forgot to mention, that my problems are terrain/mesh related. When I get home, I will quote a post where JV mentions that the FTXG initial release will be only textures and nothing related to mesh/(some lookup thing) that is causing all kinds of weird things with terrain. As promised, here is the text (from JV's thread "FTX Global Update - May 2013"), I have based my assumptions on: ... 6. The FTX Global base product will not include any mesh, custom POI objects or any other content other than textures, autogen, night lighting and the OpenLC demo area. ... 8. Right now when FTX Global is installed, it replaces the FSX Default and you switch to it using FTX Central. This means that until we solve technical issues around lclookup.bgl and other files, FTX Global is not seamlessly compatible with our FTX Central regions of North America, Oceania and Europe First task is to give you all the basic pack; the textures and autogen and LC demo Second task is to make the base pack work seamlessly with our FTX regions and FTX Central As my problems were terrain related, these were the key words that caught my attention: - "will not include any mesh" - "FTX Global is not seamlessly compatible with our FTX Central regions of North America, Oceania and Europe" From all of this, I thought, that Global will add even more compatibility problems instead of fixing the past ones. Now we are getting somewhere. Thank you! Just a small question, if I may? Does this mean that: 1) there is a (free) fix coming for UK and Wales (that will be released after Global) or 2) I have to buy a $100 patch (FTX Global) to get my UK and Wales to working correctly? Thank you again for the info and help! Jarkko Puustinen (FSX live streamer, YouTuber) http://www.twitch.tv/virtualfreightdog http://www.youtube.com/user/VirtualFreightDog
June 3, 201313 yr 1) there is a (free) fix coming for UK and Wales (that will be released after Global) or 2) I have to buy a $100 patch (FTX Global) to get my UK and Wales to working correctly? 1. No there will be no fix, you'll have to get FTX Global to be able to fly between regions, global and default FSX. 2. Not sure what your problem with Wales and England is but you should be able to fly beetwen Wales and England without any issue because they are in the same FTX region. It's when flying outside FTX UK and having it enabled the problems occur and this is just the way it has always been with Orbx regions, this is what the switcher is there for.. So to be able to leave FTX EU with it activated and not getting any terrain issues you would need to buy FTX Global... It's not a 100$ patch it's just a bonus that comes with FTX Global. They have never advertised the regions to be compitable with each other without using the switch so the scenery's you have bought work correctly in the way they should .. So they have not ripped you of because it's how the regions work... This is something Orbx customers always have been aware of and it's one of the downsides with Orbx Regions scenery. This is probably the reason you didn't get any response in the support forum because it's not a bug, it's just how things work with Orbx scenery...
June 3, 201313 yr From all the pre-release screenshots and videos I've seen, which look fantastic, I don't see why there would be any need for the individual regional sceneries anymore. Especially when they release their OpenLC product. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
June 3, 201313 yr From all the pre-release screenshots and videos I've seen, which look fantastic, I don't see why there would be any need for the individual regional sceneries anymore. Especially when they release their OpenLC product. It's just textures. That's one element of what gets touched when a region is created. All kinds of other things happen, including upgraded mesh, hand optimized landclass, correction of roads, rivers, shorelines, custom seasonal adjustments, upgrading of every single airport to reflect actual layouts, integration of a great deal of photoscenery... OpenLC may help with some of this, but even from the OpenLC demo they've shown, it doesn't correct things like shorelines. Orbx themselves have said repeatedly that this is NOT a replacement for regions. I also see people using the phrase "game changer"? Why? In what way does this change the game? It's not that these don't look nice - I think they do, but at its heart it's still just upgraded textures. Lipstick if you will. Pretty lipstick, but nevertheless... Edit: I'm not trying to diss the product - just don't see quite the revolutionary aspect that some seem to. Scott

If you have UTX like many do (I do) Roads, coastlines, rivers, are already taken care of for US, Canada, and EU. The only region where I think you would still need the regional pack would be OZ. Also it isn't just textures, it also replaces autogen, which is what makes the big difference here. There was some comparison screenshots using FSX default, FTXG, FTXG with UTX, as well as a product called True Landscape. When compared to Google Earth, the same areas, looked almost identical to the FTXG with UTX. That's good enough for me!!! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
June 3, 201313 yr Edit: I'm not trying to diss the product - just don't see quite the revolutionary aspect that some seem to. To me this is something of the best things that happend in FSX's history. I have alot of scenery from other devs than Orbx but they have never been used because of the default surroundings that looks like crap. I know there is GEX that can improve the textures but personally I think they doesn't look any good.+ It would cost me more to get GEX world coverage. So now I'm finnally able to use all the scenery I have, UTX, alot of Aerosoft airports and scenerys, LLH airports, cityscapes etc etc. + I get some nice textures to add on the excellent freeware scenery I have for Norway an area neglected by every FSX dev to date. It will make Norway look almost like a full fledged Orbx region with correct coastlines, rivers, roads and mesh. It will be a tool to improve the FSX world in so many ways that never could have happend without this product...So I'm in heaven B) And as a bonus ontop of it I am now able to fly beetwen the Orbx regions without to much issues... 12 days left until the big "evil" Orbx company takes over the world :diablo:
June 3, 201313 yr If I experience a lot of blurries with FTX regions will I get blurries with global too? I get no blurries whatsoever with defualt/gex/utx but with FTX they start to appear within a minute of leaving the airport in an aircraft over 150kts. June 3, 201313 yr If I experience a lot of blurries with FTX regions will I get blurries with global too? I don't get blurries with Orbx, must be something in your setup that makes things go blurry. Have you tweaked the FSX.cfg file, maybe you've added some that Orbx scenery don't like? Man, I starting to sound like an ambassadour for Orbx, it must be the terrible desease that seem to affect simmers these days called "fanboism" :(
