FTX Global Who is Gonna Buy!

Featured Replies

Actually,  I do not think that ORBX could make their sceneries compatible with every other developers' products, and at the same time create their products to the quality they have achieved.  I believe that what ORBX are doing is working within the constraints that FSX imposes on the way autogen files are created and saved within FSX, and   this is what limits them.  I don't think that it is reasonable to ask a developer who are creating their product with their specific quality and features, to at the same time tie their hands behind their backs to make themselves compatible with all of their competitors.

I don't know if ORBX are seeking a monopoly, but from what I have seen they are clearly the market leader in terms of innovative high quality sceneries, and  I do not have a problem with that.  We will be able to vote with our pocketbooks..  If we don't like ORBX's products with the constraints they impose with some of the other developers, then we can refuse to buy from them and stick with the other companies and their products. (However, keep in mind, that many of these products are also incompatible with other companies' sceneries, so I am not sure you will ever be able to get away from this constraint.)

Great post, you are thinking like a business man should (I am one to) and that's what Orbx is doing but there is a slight problem with that and it is the word monopoly so let see who's getting on board with them (developers and customers) and at what price.

Yeah beware, the "big evil" Orbx company is taking over the world and will eat all the others alive.

Seriously, Orbx has admitted that they went to far with the lclookup.bgl file are are now working hard to fix it so it will make Orbx products work better with other devs sceneries...and how often does JV admit mistakes....

Orbx think it looks pretty but I also leery with add-ons that control other people's add-ons. Buy X-plane 10 get virigin frontier like the old west to work with for 40.00 get US and Canada region. X-plane 10 at mid settings blows past fsx easily.

"NGX_II". Use the manual for "NGX_II" to install "Norway Scenic X" as NGX_II only need parts of it...

I believe you mean NSX II:-)

Yes, in some ways X-plane looks better in other ways not. Have tried it but didn't like the concept and also I don't get all the addons I enjoy with FSX. And in some ways I agree with JV's view on X-plane, and probably going to get alot of flames for saying that..well well

JV view will cost him business in the long term. X-plane 10 modern technology and fsx is obsolete. Orbx just putting lipstick on the pig with fsx it's likely be put to better use in Xplane.

The files you need are "Airports of Norway", "Norske Broer" , "Norway Scenic X", "Norway mesh for FS9", and "NGX_II". Use the manual for "NGX_II" to install "Norway Scenic X" as NGX_II only need parts of it...

Allthough the manual is unfortunetly in Norwegian, but google translate may help...

It's a shame the people who developed it all didn't work together to create one installer... ^_^ Luckily 'jeg snakker' a bit 'Norsk', and one of the more important readme's was English so I figured most of it out but I can understand people who aren't into it all forgetting all about it because it IS a bit complicated to get things done... I ended up with one folder in which all the necessary files are and whenever I need to install the scenery again, all I have to do is copy that folder to where I want FSX to read it from and add it to the scenery library (and take care of the order if I also use UTX). Easy. So in fact... you don't even need an installer: everything could be zipped in one zip and ready for download...! Kaboki, can't you ask your fellow Norwegians to make it a bit easier for foreigners to use their addons? :P

EDIT

O, and btw for anyone who is interested: the freeware mesh has to be downloaded from the FS2004 part of the site Kaboki linked to. Here it is:

http://www.flightsim.no/fsno/filbibliotek/FS2004/scenery/europa/norge/114.html

@Kaboki: I never really bothered with the other files on that site apart from the photoreal ENGM and ENBR (got that from somewhere else, I think): isn't the rest worth it...?

Yeah that maybe, but none of us can predict the future. But right now Im leaning more to the Prepar3d V2 bandwagon, because LM has said Prepar3d V2 will be backwards compitable with FSX scenery(that will save me some mooney). But that could also turn out too be a bad choice, but my hopes are up for P3D... And Orbx is also going to support P3D, that made my choice easier...

^_^ I could, but unfortunetly I can't acces the Norwegian forum because I have only a hotmail email address and they don't accept that.

I don't have my own DSL connection, just borrowing from the neighbor(with he's permission of course) so I don't have a valid mail.

P3d won't bother with it, but Xplane may have downsides but I see overtaking slowly in 10 years when younger generation gets into flight sims. Old timers will hang on obsolete fsx software because thousands of dollars invested in it. Incremental progress with Xplane see none with fsx

Haven't tried the rest so I can't comment on that except the files i mentioned.. Are you aware that there is ENGM payware from Aerosoft that looks better? Just tought i mentioned it if you didn't know..

I see Prepar3D as "FSX" evolving....and Im sure it will look better than FSX...I also see a split in the communety with who goes with what platform and the future I think gets determined by how many choose what platform. E.g If most simmers go with X-Plane then they are going to be the winners(when it comes to wich platform 3rdpartys choose), but It could also go in favour of Prepar3D.

But I also see the downside with Prepar3D, the EULA that will make it harder to get "new blood" into simming as they can't market it as Entertainment and only us old simmers would ever know that such a platform exist..

And they also have Stavanger and Trondheim. And then there is ENBR from Cloud9 which still can be bought. ^_^

^_^ Indeed there is.

Now that Orbx has started working on Norwegian Airports I hope they consider making "Værøy" ENVY.

It's considered the most dangerous airport in Norway because of the dangerous winds coming from the mountain and got closed for commercial traffic in the 90's after an accident. It's still used for private GA and helicopter traffic.

And then convince FSglobal Real Weather devs to code in these local effects, that would be awesome B)

Thanks! Mesh = FSGenesis, Landclass is UTX and water is default

Wow, very nice indeed. I use the very same combination myself but must say I can't remember seeing that high quality seen in your screenshots. As for the water also amazing that is default FSX water, thought it looked very very nice in your screenshots! I use AS2012 water but after looking at your screenshots maybe I'll give the default FSX water a go

Edited to add one more question, what water setting are you using in FSX? Looks like it might be all the way to the right since you have reflections in the water both from the scenery and also the sky. I've tried running the water setting in FSX at max myself but came to the conclusion it dropped my FPS too much so currently I'm running the water at Low 2.x but maybe I'll also try increasing that a bit again to see the difference.

....... And then there is ENBR from Cloud9 which still can be bought.  ^_^

Cloud 9 ENBR is my absolute all-time favourite airport scenery for any version of FS...  B)

It is a few years old but still stunning... with animated birds, local operations construction cranes, etc.... it's just top drawer.  :Applause:
