FTX Global Who is Gonna Buy!

Featured Replies

Nobody is saying that competition is not good, competition is VERY good but when you installed GEX or UTX USA did you have to switch back to FSX to fly to Mexico, did you receive a warning from Flight1 when buying GEX that their products may not be 100% compatible with other developers sceneries, did Flight1 asked other developers to join them to make sure their sceneries would be compatible with THEIR products?

I have to admit though that at least Orbx is giving the potential purchasers of FTX Global a fair warning as to the compatibility problems that their product MAY cause to your sceneries if a developer of the said scenery is not on board with them.

Alain,

This is factually incorrect. I have used UTX for many years now and of course UTX can affect 3rd party sceneries.

Flight1 is the seller of UTX and not the producer. This is what the producer of Ultimate Terrain has to say about compatibility:

Switching in ORBx products is a technical aspect, and if someone do not like this then don't buy it. We have a choice. Why continue to push this 'monopoly' agenda?

funny any time that a product  that Flight 1 does not  sell /like ie Orbx / P3d etc, in fly a group of people to throw up any excuse to belittle the products ,makes you wonder what the real issue is ?

I would never post screenshots of Orbx textures in a topic about who is going to buy GEX, but Anthony Vos (GEX texture developer) has deemed it necessary to show his Norway textures.

One can only assume that's a defensive stance by the GEX team and I would suggest that they are the ones who are concerned about a new entrant into the market they have dominated for so long.

We love competition, and that's how the free market works, but thread hijacking is a step too low coming from a fellow developer, Anthony.

Cheers,

I have to agree with this. I'm not a '######' of any particular developer or product and frankly only care about which product suits my requirements better rather than anyone's 'brand' or reputation.

But I have to admit it's pretty unsavoury seeing a competitor hijack a thread about a new product and saying 'look mine's better'.

EDIT: 'Fan' 'Boy' is swearing now?! Good grief.

Although I don't think Anthony's intention was a sinister as Jon is suggesting, the net result was probably inappropriate.

But then again........ this is AVSIM, not the Orbx forums;  all threads are 'open' and are not (AFAIK) developer-sponsored....

....... and surely part of the ethos of competition is the free ability to show off ones wares?

There are many times, for example, when a thread may be started that says something like "Is the Xtreme Prototypes Learjet any good?" ....... and within that discussion, someone may say "what about the Eaglesoft Citation, is that better?",  and someone like Ron Hamilton may then answer that, and give information about his product ...(even though the title thread was technically asking about a different product).......... and I've personally never taken issue with that.

Surely, it's what AVSIM is all about.

It's the difference between being on a developer-provided FS community forum, and a community-wide FS forum, like AVSIM.

True   but  he  could  have opened up his own thread on gex  and not  hijack the ftx  thread

Perhaps, but he was never openly just pushing his products as far as I can see.... Anthony only came into the discussion when GEX started getting as much reference and questions in the thread, as FTX was.

Personally, I don't have strong feelings towards any camp.   I use GEX and FTX in different applications.

But I just feel that Jon expecting to have a commercial monopoly of a thread (with no other developer input or screenshots) is maybe not realistic.

since  this  was  a  ftx  only thread  not  a general " what  scenery are your  guys  going  to buy is  the difference"  than it  wouldn't be  a problem

Dress it up any way you want, but it's a clear hijack and something I've not seen too many developers do.

We don't shy away from competition and even on our own forums we have relaxed our rules to allow members show other vendors' products which will relax further when FTX Global is released.

Recently I have shown many preview shots of other vendors' sceneries with FTX Global from Aerosoft, FranceVFR etc, even though we compete with them in the landclass and airport product space.

If GEX is the better and more cost effective product. then ours will bomb, and they have nothing to fear without resorting to posting their screenshots in FTX Global topics and promote their free upgrades etc.

It's high time this small developer community begins to cooperate which is why I am meeting with the CEO of Aerosoft in Germany and the CEO of FranceVFR in France in July and August and I have dinner with George from FlyTampa now and again and have met Darren and Vicki from Earth Simulations for drinks as well.

Life's too short to make enemies but I don't agree with with Anthony did and I'm not scared to say so.

Yeah, now stop pestering the guy and let him finish working on Global and getting rid of FTX Central!! :P

Sure, but as I read it John just pointed out a difference in ethics.

This is a kind of 'general' FSX forum, but in the Commercial forums I have seen moderators come down hard on other developers trying to push their products, as they should.

As Vos did not announce himself as a GEX developer and  also presenting many screenshots and installation/update advice, then I think its unethical, general forum or not.

This sounds excellent, and I totally agree that co-operation (even within a competitive market) is better for everyone.

I agree on that too!  :P

I don't have a problem with the GEX pics being posted and I did not see it as a developer trying to impose its will on this thread. That's because GEX has been the standard texture replacement for years and now it has serious competition.

It's not a big deal. There will be plenty of FTX Global vs. GEX pics. What is missing right now is the FTX Global pics.

MSFS

I'm wondering what would happen if ... I posted some thoughts and screenshots about GEX in this thread? My nick is unsuspicious and I don't have a 'developer' tag. I'm just guessing that ... nothing would happen.

Anthony clearly introduced himself as a commercial member of this forum - so much about ethics.

Back on topic, now - who's gonna buy FTXG???

What happened to AVSIM

I have to agree With John, It's seems like a desparate attemt to get attention around GEXv2..and is kinda low posting it in a thread about FTX Global. But I Guess it was all the talk about how much better FTX Global looks compared to GEX that triggered him...

I still think Global looks better
