June 2, 201313 yr I fully understand phoenixphire, and I agree. SimSavvy, Megascenery and other photo sceneries are wonderful when flying at a high altitude but I've always been a little disappointed when going low and slow. It's all those flat buildings, they really annoy me. But then that's just me having a hang up about it. For me, always below 3000ft AGL if at all possible, photo scenery always takes me out of the cockpit and dumps me firmly back at the computer screen. Blackrat
June 2, 201313 yr I fully understand what you mean and I would love to have higher quality photo scenery covering Western Europe but when I shopped for it FS Altitude was the only option I found and I figured "better than nothing". When it comes to SimSavvy I'm a bit confused because when Googling for it I found information there's a Europe version released but when I tried to find more info about it and where to buy it I couldn't find anything. I did find this -> http://simsavvy.flight-simulation.eu/ page where you're asked to go to www.sim-savvy-world.eu for more info but when I click that link I get an error messaged saying Internet Explorer cannot show the page. As for MegaScenery the way I understood it Europe is at this point not available yet. I does look incredible good though so I for one hope we will one day see MegaScenery for Europe !! Not sure if there's a trial version of FS Altitude but suggest you pay them a visit. When I was about to buy FS Altitude I had some questions and they were both quick and helpful in their respone.
June 2, 201313 yr guys, are FTX Global and GEX complementable? or do you have to make your wind which to install?... felipe turbay

June 2, 201313 yr guys, are FTX Global and GEX complementable? or do you have to make your wind which to install?... No, FTX Global does exactly the same as GEX and changes terrain textures, so you would have to choose what you will use...
June 2, 201313 yr Commercial Member Regarding FS Altitude I was thinking the same way you do at first but I then decided to give it a try so I bought Western Europe and personally I'm very happy I did! ... Then when I descend (or during climb) I have GEX which IMHO looks very good and realistic together with UTX so looking at how FS Altitude works where it will show you more and more the higher you go and in the same way let any other product like GEX or FTX Global kick in when at lower altitude without you having to do anything I find it a very good product for high flyers who want to see a shifting terrain like you never will be able to using products like GEX or FTX Global I have FS Altitude Western Europe, GEX and UTX. Question: don't you find the boundary very irritating? The colouring is so different between the GEX textures at lower levels and the FS Altitude textures that during descent you see this moving demarcation line between the two. (You don't notice during climb because of the nose up attitude). If it weren't for that annoying boundary marking I would be using it all the time. Now and then I re-enable it only to feel let down on each approach! Maybe it's only because of a lack of season matching, so green instead of brown in Winter? What do you see, and doesn't it bother you? Regards Pete Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz. Once get above 1500 agl photo scenery is awesome unlike that fsx default garbage below. Flatness aspect is better than crappy fsx auto-gen. Still think, Orbx price is fair just want to know how the installer works and the generic obrx textures does not cause problems with photo-scenery.
June 2, 201313 yr Still think, Orbx price is fair just want to know how the installer works and the generic obrx textures does not cause problems with photo-scenery. If you register on Orbx forum and login and go to this thread http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/59542-a-question-about-ftx-global/ You'll see that there will be no problems with photoscenery ontop of FTX Global. A user had the same concerns as you and John Venema confirmed that it was not an issue... I'm under the impression that all other scenerys will work without problems in FTX Global, except GEX obviously. They even posted a picture of aerosoft "Nice" scenery and France VFR landclass to illustrate how well it blended together... and I have to say I was quite impressed how well it blended despite the slight color differences from Aerosofts photoreal ground textures.

At first I found the border between the two different textures rather annoying but after I while I learned to not think about it that much but of course it would be nice if this could be avoided. However I think the method FS Altitude uses where you will have the photo scenery on high altitude and still have your normal scenery when at low altitude and how this happens by itself is rather genious. Haven't tried it during the winter time season yet but as FS Altitude doesn't come with more than one season textures I guess the difference during winter time might be too big even for me and I guess I'll then have to switch FS Altitude OFF until it's spring/summer again.

Yes, I've been doing that. But I tend to fly a lot more in Winter/Autumn than Spring/Summer (can't think why ;-) ). Maybe I'll turn it on again now, see if it meshes better. June 2, 201313 yr Author When it comes to SimSavvy I'm a bit confused because when Googling for it I found information there's a Europe version released but when I tried to find more info about it and where to buy it I couldn't find anything. I did find this -> http://simsavvy.flight-simulation.eu/%C2'> Yes I know that Europe is advertised. In my communication with the owner (his name slips my mind right now) he told me in an email that the Europe resolution was not up to his standard. The owner would ship the product on an external HD and he would include Europe and Canada if I am not mistaken. Then he offered an 50cm upgrade to existing customers but they had to send the HD back to him and he would load the HD scenery. The first time the HD came it did not include the Europe or Canada textures. When I sent the drive the second time for the upgrade I emailed him and asked if he could include them. He told me that the textures for EU and CA were much lower resolution but he would include them. When the drive came back the textures were still not loaded. I didn't pay for them the first time so I just left it at that. One more thing and I may be wrong about this but as I understand it the developer of SimSavvy was trying to develop water masking for his product and he joined with the Megascenery Earth team and the product that we see now the 2.0 is a result of their collaboration. I am open to correction on any of these points Mike Keigley

June 2, 201313 yr Different strokes I guess. I personally can't stand flat, lifeless, (blurry at low levels) photoscenery. I'm really excited for FTX Global. It looks to completely revolutionize FSX IMO. It's not even comparable to GEX from what I've seen. Night and day difference in quality. Plus they've figured out how to add lights all over the world with no FPS hit (it's done totally different then usual).
June 3, 201313 yr Author Question: don't you find the boundary very irritating? Maybe it's only because of a lack of season matching, so green instead of brown in Winter? What do you see, and doesn't it bother you? Flying with photo scenery also results in the harsh lines between borders. At first it is irritating. I just switch to cockpit view and then I hardly notice it. The other visual issue with the SimSavvy scenery is that the photo scenery extends beyond the land into the ocean resulting in blocks out into the ocean. I plan to purchase the Mega scenery 2.0 on the west coast and I have already purchased Florida and New York some of the major areas I fly. As far as winter and fall goes if I feel like flying in those seasons I just use UTX + GEX and soon to be FTX Global. Mike Keigley
June 3, 201313 yr I'm kinda confused here, there are so many add-ons for FSX it's getting a bit out of hand for me to keep up with everything. How does FTX Global compare to FS Global Ultimate? Are these products both the same in what they do or do they work together? Right now I have REX, UTX, GEX, OPUS, ACCUFEEL, EZDOK, and a few other addons. If I were to purchase FTX Global, it will basically replace GEX?
