How to use Opus when flying with no particular plan in mind?

Recommended Posts

Having your destination put in allows you to view the weather in the OPUSFSReports window within 300 miles of the airport. The FS ATIS either being correct or not is something I am not sure if forcing a weather update will change or not. FS usually does its own thing. But I would like to say that forcing a weather update should also update the FS ATIS "engine" as well.

You can use the Opus Weather Report windows to obtain perfect ATIS a little over 400 miles away. The latest beta 3.03.5, soon to be released as Release Version 3.1, now gives the correct Destination weather inside FSX at a distance of 240km (130nm) or more, hence you will recive correct AI traffic runway selection and FSX ATIS (at altitude the FSX ATIS can be tuned into at about 200km or 75nm).

But if you just want to go for a fly araound, just set all defaults (recommended anyway), leave the Destination and MaxCruise Altitude empty, generate the weather an go fly. If you want accurate upper winds and temperatures then specify a Max Cruise Altitude of at least 6000 feet. OpusFSX saves all these settings so you only have to do this once.

If whilst flying you decide to land out at a known destination then just specify the Destination to Opus and Update the weather, the LWE will then give you perfect ATIS and long range weather accuracy within FSX as usual.
