Complete Watercooling Noob. Need Help!

Recommended Posts

Dear fellow forum users,

First, thanks for taking the time to check my post out! I need your help. I am creating a new rig, but need some help. I want to have a water cooled system for both my processor and GFX card, but have no idea where to start. I plan to have the following things in the rig. The purpsoe of the rig is probably solely FSX and FS related tasks

Case:

Corsair HAFx

Intel i7 3770k

Mobo: Not too sure yet (can anyone recommend a good one?)

Gtx 780 hydro copper (if you recommend another one let me know)

PSU: Not sure again, please recommend!

HDD: Again, not sure, please recommend if possible.

Extra Cooling Fans.

RAM: Surprise, I am not too sure again.

*Note: It's not that I am a computer noob or anything, I just don't know the best and most recent options that go well with FS. I did rig shopping 5 years ago, and since then a lot has changed!!

So can anybody do any general recommendations AND MOST IMPORTANTLY set me up with some watercooling solutions for my Processor and GFX card? Thanks in advance!!

Hello Romario,

I've been considering water, but after seeing these leak testimonies I'm not on board any more!

Doesn't mean much unless you can quote a % of users that experience leaking.  The closed system ones (like the H60 and H100) are pretty safe despite the above information.  Obviously it's caveat emptor, but i have used the H100 in the past, it wasn't as good as i had hoped, but it didn't leak.

Have you thought about a good Air Cooler?  The Noctura DH14 is very good.

Yes that's one that has been recommended.  My new build is going to have some expensive parts and a leak is just out of the question for me.

The OP doesn't actually "need" water cooling. The 3770K will overclock to 4.6 GHz, on air. It can also be de-lidded and pushed higher, still on air.

Having said that, if he wants the most efficient cooling possible, just to know he has the best, then a full blown water cooling kit is the way to go.

There are certainly a lot of leak issues reported on the Corsair support forum. But to be fair to Corsair, that's understandable. Anyone with a leak, world wide, will report it there. I guess only Corsair know, how many units they sell, and how many leak.

For me though, even if leaks are rare, I would always be paranoid, wondering if and when it would leak. NH-D14 eliminates any worries I would have.
