AOTD for 6/4/13 - Halfway Tower

Recommended Posts

This AOTD sounds like a good one. Air1 has presented us with a puzzle this time. Somewhere between Golovin and Moses Point Fishing village leaves a lot of territory to explore.

Thanks Steve.

Enjoy.

Thank you.

Rick

This one was interesting.  Due to the hint, I took off in the wrong direction. It's a good thing I had the HUD operating. When I saw the distance to GZ increase, I figured out something was amiss. I did a 180 and was on the right track. I think the description should say "Halfway between Elim and Moses Point.

In any case, I enjoyed the hunt and find. I had to land and walk over to the tower to collect the cache. Cool.

Thanks Steve.

Thank you.

Thanks for the tip, Rick. Couldn't have found it otherwise. B)

On the runway at Elim:

Winter is very long here.

For the life of me, I couldn't figure what this antenna is supposed to be.

Some sort of obstruction, I imagine. The sectional shows a cabin here, so maybe it is his ham radio aerial.

It can't be the NDB because here it is.

Nor the VOR, I parked next to it at Moses Point. :P

I never said half way between where! That would have been too easy. The idea was to put it where it could not be gotten from the air. I did try about 5 different passes and also had to finally land to get it. I love it when a plan comes together!

Your are correct, Steve.  The description does say "somewhere", not "half way".  The placement was perfect. It would be very difficult if not impossible to get this one from the air.  The cub was the perfect aircraft for this one as it likes to land in rough areas. No problem landing and taxiing over for a short walk to the cache.  I liked this one very much. Thanks for getting it published.  Looking forward to more.

Thank you.

I came in over the water, got the fat tundra tires all wet and skimmed up to the coast with the spray trailing behind the Cub. Water skiing with this airplane has turned out to be loads of fun.

Best regards.
