Uninstall FSX

Recommended Posts

Urgent assistance request please.

I have been having serious BEX CTD's and reluctantly decided to uninstall everything and re-install FSX from scratch. Unfortunately, when I start FSX uninstall under Control Panel, the uninstall starts momentarily then stops then ....nothing. I have tried putting the FSX CD into the drive and the install process starts then dissapears and again nothing on screen. FSX is still there - an icon on the desktop allows me to start it (with a lot of error messages) but I cant uninstall at all.

What do I do now? I have very limited PC knowledge and have read some suggestions that I should start editing registry's which fills me with horror. i have tried downloading a Flight1 registry remair tool - no luck, I have tries Revo Uninstaller - no luck - what a bloody mess!!!

Help please!

Andrew

Because you've already tried to uninstall I suggest you use System Restore to get back to the situation before you tried and then follow the PMDG instructions

You should get rid of BEX error anyway, It's probably still be there after reinstall. Try this troubleshooting steps, amyway you should set fsx in this way for best stability. I'll try to remember as much i can:

- make a backup of your fsx.cfg

 - delete FSX.CFG, run FSX and apply all your settings again

 - open fsx.cfg and apply all tweaks again

- Very important for BEX error: Go to start and type "services" and run it.

- find and disable all services you find in this list disabled: http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic34141_post201316.html#201316

 - Disable UAC: http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-disable-and-turn-off-uac-in-windows-7/

I would disable DEP globaly(using command prompt)too, if you have antivirus program - it's your choice: http://windows7themes.net/disable-windows-data-execution-prevention-in-windows-7-vista.html

- Put vista UIAutomationcore.dll in your main FSX folder, don't try to add it to registry or something like that, nothing - just put it there. This is the correct version: https://www.dropbox.com/s/adxsx0mxb6wztil/UIAutomationCore.rar  (i think this will fix it)

- update FSUIPC to the latest version http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66139-updated-modules/

 - check / update Direct X:    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

and  Dirext X SP1 http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5582

 - install "ENU (vcredist_x86.exe)" http://archive.msdn.microsoft.com/KB961894/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=2067

 - check SDK / simconnect version for your version of FSX:  http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=SDK_Installation_%28FSX%29

Check DLL.XML integrity: http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a92/dllxml-information-and-troubleshooting.aspx

- exclude FSX folder from antivirus scaning

- apply this microsoft patch: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947246

Hi guys,

Thanks for the prompt response. Not able to use the PMDG route, which I was aware of, because when I try to uninstall Fsx by that method, that's when I get the problem. I select FSX and uninstall, the normal uninstall process briefly starts and then nothing happens I.e the uninstall process sequencing screens don't appear and FSX doesn't uninstall. Having uninstalled all my add ons successfully already, I know it's not win7 uninstall that's at fault.

Someone on a forum post suggested putting the FSX disc 1 in and "it will offer remove or repair". That doesn't happen either, the 'starting install' dialogue appears briefly, then disappears from the screen and nothing happens! I used System Restore as you suggested mgh, to a date two days prior, but that haven't solved it either....

Stumped! Can't now get FSX back onto my system!!

Have you considered a format of your HD and fresh OS reinstall?  If you do not feel comfortable with that you can have it done at a local comp repair store for about $75.

I agree with  the above post  now  since  you have  probably  made  things  worse  now  with doing the  restore option  etc is  to start from scratch again  do a complete re install off everything,  I know  its going  to take  awhile but in the long  run it probably  be  quicker  than trying to solve your  issues  now.

Now  my last tip is  to get  acronis true  image  or another  similar  program, and once  you have  a stable platform  and  everything  works as normal is  to mirror  your hard  drive  to an external  drive  and  than when  some thing happens  again  its  a matter of  30 minutes or less of  work  to  re install  back again to the  working platform again. Will save  you lots of  hassles  again which your having  now.

if you read his earlier  post he  said  he  used the restore option but  didn't  work

I missed that post.

Did you ever create a System Repair disk? If so trying using that. Mine offers a System Restore. It may be worth trying that again from there. If that fails, mine offers the opportunity to restore Windows to its "as-installed state." That also may help.

If not then backup the Registry and then edit the original to remove all references to FSX. On rebooting if FSX/Acceleration doesn't appear in Uninstall or Change a Program list in Control Panel then manually delete all FSX folders and files.

If anyone hasn't made a System Repair disk I strongly suggest that they do. It can be a lifesaver.
