June 18, 201312 yr Hi guys, i have 3 problems I need some help with. I've added a video where these problems show up. This video wasn't intended to point them out, i was just practising with video-editing software and uploading to Youtube as i am new to both. 1) Some building show up shimmering through clouds at about 1:12 for example, whilst leaving the LAX area. You can see a gray building shimmering through a cloud. This is not too obvious and can be ignored, but what is really annoying is the fact that other clouds are visible that are beyond other thick clouds. You dont see that in this video though, but that really bugs me and kills the immersion. Is there anything to fix this? 2) While landing at Las Vegas you can see the buildings of LV-city shimmering a bit. Is this an DX10 specific issue, and does anyone know a fix? Maybe Steves upcoming scenery fixer will help me with this one.. 3) And last but not least: For a few days now I am flying with VoxATC and thus flying using SIDS and STARS with the NGX. I don't add them in my initial flightplan, because they can change because of real weather conditions. My problem is that when VoxATC gives me the STAR while i'm near the last waypoint, the route in the FMC gets mixed up after selecting the given STAR on the DEP/ARR page in the FMC. For some reason there always already is a runway at me destination airport selected by default. So when i add the STAR and transition, the route gets messed up as you can see @2:00 in the video for example. I know you can 'copy' the first STAR-waypoint and paste it after the last waypoint of your initial flightplan in the FMC, but for some reason I mess it up all the time. Does anyone have a tip how to recover from a messed up route in the FMC? Sometimes it is impossible to delete a waypoint (like the default slected runway) I use vRoute premium and export the generated flightplan to FSX and PDMG format and load them both and Vox is working ok. Although sometimes it first gives me a STAR and while flying that, it starts vectoring me to my destination. Is that normal ATC behaviour? (I did not use VoxATC in this video btw. but default ATC) Thanks in advance, and sorry for the long post. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWiX_vfwXO4 Mark
June 18, 201312 yr Author [sharedmedia=videos:videos:329]Here is the video if I can get it to work.. Edit: I can't, sorry... You can use the link in the OP By the way, I just completed a test flight and adding the STAR did work now. Maybe I overlooked something earlier. But my most important question remains i think. What if you get re-routed to a different approach and the route/legs are messed up, is there an easy way to clean up the RTE page? Mark
June 18, 201312 yr I don't use DX10, but for STARS - in NGX FMC just go to arrival and select RWY and new(given)STAR. It will clear old entries automatically. Anyway, you need to check that, just like pilots in real world do - look at charts, and compare waypoints / fixes / altitudes / restrictions. Add, delete or edit manually what needed Zeljko Budovic
June 18, 201312 yr To determine if the shimmering is caused by DX10, just uncheck DX10 Preview in fsx and run the same flight in DX9. If shimmering continues, then it is not DX10 Preview but one of your display driver settings and/or FSX.cfg settings. The negative LOD_Bias setting in the NI or display driver setting should be set to Clamp. Shimmering and 'the blurries' have been issues in FSX for a long time. I personally do not think you can completely remove them but you can reduce the problem. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! For starters.. i wonder why checking in DX9 didn't occur to me lol, seems so obvious. I have never set a LOD-bias because don't understand what it means. I had set Negative LOD-Bias to Clamp already, but I don't have a number set in the "LOD-Bias" line i mean (There are similar-named settings in NI in that section). Will read up on that! Mark

I don't think that line will do anything for the FSX engine. Think it has to be kept blank. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! June 18, 201312 yr
I suspect you can experiment. It might have worked for someone but most fsx/display driver settings do not work for everyone. One neat thing you can try is to load fsx where you see simmering, open up NI and then begin trying various settings until the problem disappears. Find what works best for your system. The 8xS (and above) AA Setting in NI controls autogen shimmering. Make sure you do not make your settings so high that it will create even more shimmering or issues in your graphics. Personally I run my NI at the default level for FSX but do see some shimmering but almost perfect AA. But I have a GTX780 video card with 3GB's or memory and maybe that 's why that's the case.

Best regards,

Jim
Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! June 18, 201312 yr Author I think I know the cause of my FMC troubles. I just selected a flightplan in vRoute and it automaticaly adds a dep and arr runway incl SID and STAR. So i guess these get exported to the NGX when i load them via co-route option in the FMC. Gonna do some testing now, i hope i have removed them correctly (used the 'direct - all runways' function) Edit: No that cant be it ofcourse, i read somewhere that the NGX automaticaly strips it of SIDS and STARS. June 29, 201312 yr Great video. What scenery is that ? If default, does DX10 make it look so real ? David Hinson
June 29, 201312 yr Author Great video. What scenery is that ? If default, does DX10 make it look so real ? Thanks! But that was a lot of add-on scenery you saw there. You can see the list in the video itself, right at the start. It was FS Dreamteams KLAX and KLAS, both with US Cities XL and Megascenery of SoCal (incl LA) and Las Vegas. In between the excellent freeware of Blue Sky Scenery (check it out: www.blueskyscenery.com) I now managed to get rid of the shimmering (almost completely) and I am using less bloom then in the video. I was fiddling with SweetFX and had overdone the bloom here, which I didn't notice at first. Mark
