RealEngine for FSX/FS2004 - realistic aircraft limitations and failures

Recommended Posts

Ok, I did adjust your .cfg. Red is what had to be changed. You can just copy everything below and paste in an empty panel.cfg and place that one in your aircraft folder. It should work now.

Cheers,

Andreas :-)

Hey Andy,

great helpdesk job B)

Just coming in here and problem is already solved.

There is one entry which it might be better to remove (better safe than sorry):

@Kaboki

Remove the part marked orange below from the panel.cfg test that Andy has posted.

Let us know if you still have problems.

@Andy,

> Do you have any plans on extending the functionality with additional models? E.g. extensive stress to the wings ... ;-)

For the time being I have only very limited to no plans with RE, and no work ongoing.

The one point I'd still really like to fix is to find a better way to display the RE CHT-model's CHT value into the aircraft's CHT gauge.

Currently the pretty complex procedure of editing the plane's' CHT or Oil T gauge to display the CHT/Oil T value modeled by RE's CHT model in the aircraft's gauge is not satisfactory.

I'm looking for anybody who wouild be willing to write me a C gauge that allows to directly overwrite FS's internal CHT value with the value calculated by the RE CHT model. The required C/Simconnect/FSUIPC modeling is beyond my skills.

Additional modules are certainly possible, but they would have to make sense, ie they must allow either to add a new feature that currently does not exist in FS, or allow to render an FS feature more realistic.

The "more realistic" part is the difficulty.

Just for illustration, in the cited example (stress to wings leading to failure, which is an interresting feture) an user or I during RE development would need to find data/information/estimation under what loads the wing collapses/gets damaged to configure such an RE module in a realistic way. Unfortunately very little real-world test data exists about this, pilots being rather shy to test it out, and most of those who have are unfortunately not with us any more to tell about their experience. ;)

So I don't see how to make such a module more realistic than the overstress limlitation that FS already has.

This is the issue with a lot of effects one could consider.

So I have no real plans for major additions/modifications to RE for the time being.

Hello there,

I had some time to test it and I must say flying in FSX makes more sense now. ;-) perfect addon for aircraft without a native failure mode.

One thing which might be of interest to add would perhaps be something similar to the service based failures of PMDG's NGX. As far as I know it lets an engine fail when its maintenance status is bad or hours in service are high. Since many aircraft write their engine hours into the respective state.cfg it would be possible to read this value and do something with it... :-)

Cheers,

Andy

Okay guys reviving an old thread

I enhanced the old C185 with the available mods (B.Stolle's FDE's and Daniel Gaulthier's cockpit clickspot sounds)

I also added the RealEngine 1.4 gauge as per the above instructions. I edited the parameters with values I collected from various sources around the internet. I added two screenshot's with the changes I made. I have however two questions:

1. where are the edited values stored when directly edit the parameters in the gauge. I thought in the aircraft specific .ini file but that one seemed unchanged.

2. Are these values (somehow) correct in your opinion because the engine seems very fickle. Within 1-2 minutes after take off with take off power the engines just quits <_<

Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm setting this up for the Carenado 210.

The power lines should be in the manual. The CHT, oil temp and oil pressure I think can come off the aircrafts gauges do those should be good for you.

Now I'm not sure about the MP and RPM stuff. They should be obtainable from performance charts or in the manual but you could also copy the minutes just off the gauges I imagine. But I'm not sure. Have you googled if anyone has done this with the 185 before because that would help. You could also take it up and run it at those settings and get your max values.... Maybe

Hope this helps. Maybe I'll post a screenshot of the 210 when I'm done

Hi,

I'm trying to setup RealEngine with my Aerosoft Beaver. The problem is that although the gagues are working and I can pretty much trash my engines on demand :) I can't get the status gagues to appear on the screen. I get what looks like rectangular flash and then nothing, except for a rapidly flickering cursor.

I've seen similar on other planes when loading panels and I think its likely assciated with me using a Matrox Triplehead, but I just wanted to check if anyone had any issues before I go down that path.

Additionally, if anyone has already done the config work on the Beaver, can they share? No point spending hours on this if somebody has already done it.

BTW If I get this to work I will be happy to share.

Neil

Just read about this over at CalClassic's. Very interesting addon this is. Going to have to try it on a few of the unrealistic paywares I have.

This is a pretty wow addon.  So much of the time I find myself not paying attention to CHT and EGT.  Gonna have to try this out.  I might be shot by the dev for saying this, but HTR (Helicopter Total Realism) has a nice way of integrating with helos by running alongside the sim...you don't have to integrate it into the aircraft.  Might make it simpler for folks?

I have this installed on my Just Flight Connie. It definitely adds another dimension to the flight. Selecting the proper amount in the parameters was a bit tricky but once setup, aircraft management becomes more complete; especially on taxiing, takeoffs and climb outs.

Intresting, is it easy to set up and how realistic do you feel it is? Could be something to have while waiting for more Accusimmed aircrafts as I love these kind of things...Then I could reinstall some of my carenados because failures is the main reason I don't use them

So True In this case FAILURE IS AN OPTION...

Rob, have a look at this document for the 520 (Cessna 185): https://www.redskyventures.org/doc/cessna-poh/Continental_IO520_Operators_Manual.pdf

I have been using RealEngine for a couple of months with good results. I use it mostly on the Carenado Seneca II if anyone wants my profile.  Got the numbers just right, you have to hold off full power on takeoff, not letting the Overboost lights come on, or you are in for a rough engine later on. I thrashed it once and got an engine failure. It is great to see cowl flaps having an effect on CHT temperatures too, very cool. I set most temps a little shy of the MAX Allowed Values, because I looked at the ‘recommended temperatures’ and I was finding I just could not get the engine to those Max Allowed temperatures no matter what.

I would like to set the RealEngine up for the Carenado 185 too, soon.

I usually bring up the Mini Panel as part of the startup checklist, then when I want to refer to the main RealEngine panel, I press a button on my Homebuild Cockpit to bring it up and dismiss it.

I found all the MP data and temps from the Continental Manual for the TSIO-360 engine , it is a PDF free online. http://www.tcmlink.com/pdf2/MaintenanceManuals/X30583/X30583.pdf

Hi Paul,

Wow the old thread lives again!! Adnd what a coincidence as I was just yesterday fumbling with RealEngine and the Grunman Goose!

I would love to have your setup for the Seneca II.  would you mind sending it.
