New Zealand Exploration: Part I

Recommended Posts

After spending the past few months doing medium and long hauls across Europe and the US, I decided it was time to do some exploring with smaller aircraft.  I decided New Zealand is the perfect area for my exploration thanks to it's amazing scenery (even better with ORBX) and the many many commuter flights with Air New Zealand and smaller companies like Sounds Air.  Fortunately the VA I'm a member of has an awesome Air New Zealand mission that covers the entire country with smaller prop aircraft, here are my adventures!

FSX w/ REX 2.0, ASE

PMDG B1900D, Majestic Q400 Payware

ORBX New Zealand (North & South Island packages)
FSDT GSX Ground Services
Ultimate Traffic II AI

After arriving in Auckland from Honolulu on a Qantas B744F operated by Atlas Air, I was looking forward to some quick and short turbo prop flights.  Our fist ride is a freshly painted "All Blacks" Beechcraft B1900D sitting on the ramp at NZAA for the quick hop to Tauranga.  Once the passengers and cargo are on board, we begin the taxi to Auckland International's runway 25.

Departing from a rainy Auckland.  It wasn't too long ago I passed through here using default FSX scenery, I can't believe the details of the coast around the airport.  ORBX has done an amazing job here!

Today's flight isn't too long, as it's scheduled for only 35 minutes.  We are cruising at an altitude of 11,000 feet, and the view of the local farm lands is superb!

Heading out over the ocean towards Motiti Island before turning back for our arrival at Tauranga's runway 25.

We have a slight crosswind as we descend on our visual approach

Parked at the gate, and deboarding our cargo and passengers.

After some lunch and a change of aircraft our next destination is Wellington.  We will be making our way to the south end of the North Island with Majestic's awesome Q400 aircraft.  A traveller at Tauranga Airport catches a shot of us as we begin our taxi to runway 25.

We will be cruising along the east coast of New Zealand's north island on our way to Wellington.  The winds are coming from the south, and this will be my first ever time landing on NZWN's runway 16.

After a cruise at FL220, we begin our descent into Wellington

On finals into Wellington, I was amazed by the detail of the local canyons and mountains that ORBX NZ has brought to life. (Pics like this don't do justice to how it looks in the sim)

A bit hazy, but runway 15 is now insight for our final approach

Parked at the gate as the sun sets on my first day in New Zealand.

Nice shots, but I think you have a conflict in your scenery library judging by the double towers at Auckland ;).

Thanks for the compliments everyone!  Glad you liked them!

Nice shots, but I think you have a conflict in your scenery library judging by the double towers at Auckland ;).

So far NZAA is the only airport like that.  ORBX PNW also does that at KSEA, but not KPDX or KBFI.  It's above my add-on scenery folder in my Scenery Library, so I'm not sure how to fix that.
