Ground Services X or EZDOK, which to get?

Recommended Posts

I realized they are totally different products but I'm interested in both. Can only purchase one at this time, suggestions on which is the smarter, more fun or better 'bang for the buck' purchase?

I pretty much exclusively switch around between flying my Concorde X,  Consolidated Catalina and Twin Otter. If the darn PMDG DC-6 would be out, I'd own that too.

Ezdok,

Forget about Gsx. Only certain airports will support gsx but ezdok work on any planes. I been using ezdok for quite some time, never be able to fly without it. But not even considering gsx or will be anytime soon.

GSX works on every airport, what the heck are you talking about, its AES that works on a limited set of airports which you have to pay for individually in most cases.

I concur though, get EZdok first, your will get far more use out of that than you will GSX and if you use TrackIR too its a must have purchase.

Cheers, Andy.

There is a fully functional demo of GSX, it is limited to 3 major airports though. One of them is Munich, cannot remember the other two. It is also free on all FS Dreamteam airports...

I would still go for EZDOK first, can' t fly without it. Moving around in the cockpit feels much more natural.

Dead simple... Ezdok, a no brainer.

GSX is only fun when you like to spend more time on the ground then in the air.  :P Seriously, I gave the demo a try sometime ago but even though I use FS2Crew with the 737NGX I found it only costs me time... I am too busy preparing the plane to notice the various cars etc. drive around. The pushback is better but that's it: the rest doesn't interest me too much.

In the end of course it all depends on what you like to do in FSX.

As far as the camera's in OpusFSX are concerned: it's probably me but I never got it working well with my TrackIR. Way too often the screen shakes and stutters and all kinds of crap, so I've disabled the camera part completely. I used to use EZDOK before but in the end I liked flying the 737NGX more without all that moving around. ;) And I don't really use or need extra views: I stay in the captain's seat all the time and can even do everything on the overhead just by using TrackIR.

So my final advice would be: get neither LOL

I know this will probably not be of much help, but my thoughts:

I use GSX ony for pushback when I fly airliners (and that's not too often), but I like the way it does that. Besides, can be quite handy to have a follow-me cab every now and then, if I don't have charts at hand or if I'm too lazy to look for my gate.

I can't really comment on Ezdok, I own it, but I've yet to take the time to figure out how ti really works...

So I'd recommend you to try the GSX demo, and see if you like what it does, then decide on which way to go.

You need to give the "fsxserver.exe" process a higher priority in Windows.

Start with Above Normal then go for High if it still stutters.

Mine used to stutter till I did this, now it's fine.

One concern I have with EZDOK are the keys. Right now I just use the standard F9-F12 and A and S to switch around.

Does each new camera view need its own key? Most of the keys are already used on the keyboard within FSX.

Also, with GSX, what happens to airport support vehicles that are already there when GSX kicks in? Do they run into each other and clip through or is GSX smart somehow to avoid the vehicles that are already around the populated airport? See pic.

I absolutely love Ezdok. I hadn't installed it at all, since I haven been using Opus exclusively. But after switching to FSGRW, I had to reinstall Ezdok again. And the results are really so good. Once you know how to set up cameras and effects, configuring a new plane, takes only minutes. And all I can say, is that this is really a must have! ;-)

There are some conflict points between default airport traffic and GSX (mainly the vehicle running into each other), but as you can see in your  picture, the default airport vehicles can't even "peacefully coexist" with default scenery (pushback truck in the terminal building), and sometimes those vehicle endanger aircraft, so there's not really a great loss if you switch it off IMO. But at least you won't see multiple pushback truck attached to your plane (unless you press SHIFT +P in addition to requesting pushback from GSX).

After using EZDOK for a few weeks I sold my TrackIr rig and have never regretted it.

GSX has an excellent pushback. After trying the other features, pushback is the only part of it that I still use.

For parking: EFB .
