Staggerwing or Waco YMF ?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys n' gals,

I have $20 burning a whole in my pocket, and want to get either the Alabeo Staggerwing or Waco YMF.....

I was interested in hearing people's views on both, to help me decide which to go for?

Cheers!

They're both lots of fun; the Waco simulates open cockpit wind sound, which I like, but some might find annoying. The Staggerwing feels more maneuverable.

Get both! ;)

I also have both, and recommend them both. As FleetingThought pointed out, the Waco is an open cockpit, considerably slower, and  less maneuverable, which can be a good thing in a non-AP aircraft. The Staggerwing, given the number of screen shots seen on this forum and others, is the new "beauty queen". It is a very attractive aircraft, and fun to fly.

I recommend both, but if I had to pin it down to one, it would be the Staggerwing.

EDIT: I had this in mind, but it popped out before original posting... Both aircraft have really nice sound tracks - there something about a rotary engine and both models capture it well, particularly in external spot view. That being said, the Waco being an open cockpit, the rotary sound "rattles"  (engine is right out in front of you, after all), whereas the Staggerwing is a muted rumble. Again, they both have their appeal.

Thanks guys...  :drinks:

Budget only extends to one, and I'm currently torn between the open cockpit fun of the WACO, and the stunning beauty of the Staggerwing's VC !

Decisions Decisions! ........ I'm home in 1 hour, so have to make a decision and buy by then; so I can spend the evening flying

I was just reading that if you click the left and right 'vents', you can make the brace disappear in the model?

Anyway, I took your advice; the idea of an open seater really appealed, so went for the WACO. All installed and about to take her for a VFR flight around The Netherlands (a al NL2000)

Thanks for the views! (pun intended!)

The WACO is awesome! (Once it's in the air - I'd forgotten how difficult it is to taxi a taildragger with a great big radial strapped on the front ).

Amazing visuals and flies beautifully - exactly what I was after.

Breathtaking to fly over photoscenery, or Orbx style areas!
