Building FSX Computer.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Im just about to build my own computer for FSX and was wondering what people thought about the components I was going to buy for it:

PSU - OCZ 700W ModXstream Pro Power Supply

MOBO - Gigabyte GAZ77x-D3H

CPU - Intel Core i5 3570K 3.4GHz

GPU - Asus GTX 660 Direct CU II OC 2GB

RAM - G-Skill 16GB (4x4GB) 2400MHz

MEMORY - Western Digital 2TB 3.5"SATA 6GB/s 64MB

I think that should be all I need for FSX to run very well.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

A decent selection of components. If you clock the 3570K to over 4ghz you'll have a pretty good system for FSX.

Those are great specs however I recommend you get a water cooling system and overclock your cpu to 4ghz + (the higher the better!).

Haswell is the only way to go now. 2x4GB is enough ram for FSX, and almost anthing else. Two sticks are usually more efficient than four.

I agree. I made the mistake of purchasing more RAM for my computer, and I notice no difference at all. 8GB is plenty.

Are you thinking of overclocking that 3570k? If so, you need a cooler.

Also, which WD drive is that? Green, blue, black...?

You might want to take a look at the new Nvidia 760 that just came out. Other than that looks good.

Almost bought the 660 but 760 at 250 all wait.

Hi

Go for the Haswell 4670k , if you need 4x4gb 16gb for other apps the z87 and Haswell

IMC handels 4 sticks as good as with 2 that the IB z77 can have problems with.

As Saab 340 CPU test you have 11% IPC gain agianst the 3570.

No reason to Buy a IB .

Thanks for all the help (and so quickly!)!

Is there any proper advantage on getting the Nvidia 760 over the 660?

I think, i'll get the Haswell instead.. should I still overclock with that?

And I think I will get the z87 MOBO

Oh and its a RED harddrive

The 660ti is a good compromise and complements the rest of your selections well. As for cooling, water cooling isn't necessary for a moderate overclock. Good air coolers like the Cooler Master 212 EVO or the Noctua NH D14 should be fine up to around 4.5 Ghz. Their performance is comparable to budget closed loop water coolers like the Corsair h60 or h80. As has been stated 8 gb is plenty if only concerned with FSX. The ideal setup for FSX is for it to be installed on its own dedicated SSD in its own folder created by yourself, not the default x86/program/files pathway suggested by the installer. Regards

Except for the fact that the cheapest 760 is only 10 dollars more than the cheapest 660ti.

The 760 is in-between the 660ti, and the 670 in terms of performance. It kills the 660 in every way.

Well I've taken all your advice so now i'm thinking off the following:

PSU - OCZ 700W ModXstream Pro Power Supply

MOBO - Asus Z87-Pro

CPU - Intel Core i5 4670K 3.4GHz

GPU - Gigabyte GTX 760 OC Windforce 2GB

RAM - G-Skill 16GB (4x4GB) 2400MHz

MEMORY - Western Digital 2TB RED 3.5"SATA 6GB/s 64MB

Corsair Hydro Series H110 280mm
