New videocard...what to enter in fs9 and display cfg?

Recommended Posts

Hi,Today i bought the Asus Radeon 9600 XT.I have had the Geforce 3 Ti200 for ages. I know i made one or more entry's in fs9.cfg and maybe display.cfg back then, but i haven't got the faintest idea what i should be putting in there now for my new 9600 XT. Anyone any ideas?ThanksEricAmsterdam

Eric - The easiest thing to do is just delete (or rename) the existing fs9.cfg and then restart the sim. FS9 will build a new fs9.cfg file which automatically has the right information.Doug

Eric,I think Doug hit the nail on the head. You might want to make a backup copy of your FS9.cfg file in case you can't remember what settings to make after FS builds the new one.Gary

Oke, thanks guys, after deleting the fs9.cfg a new one was build with a new entry for my card. Still, i can't help but wondering why we all did this so complicated when fs9 first came out by entering lines manually in fs9.cfg.Oh well.GreetingsEricAmsterdam

Eric - I think the added lines were needed to get ( or try to get) some of the older video cards to display reflections. But that's not needed with the newer cards.Doug

Hi Ive got the same card here my suggestion depends on the rest of your system (Ive only got a PIII 1 ghz) In fs9~display~hardware switch off AA,select triple buffering, switch off render to texture only if you have no dxt clouds ect (or its CTD time)installed,Mipmaps set to 4 or 5,lights 6 and abovenow in the ATI control panel~advance~3d hit the custom button(direct 3d) and set AA to 4x,anisotropic filtering to 4xleave temporal unchecked, slide all the other sliders to the far right except truform leave this offthen ok and apply The other fs9 like scenery clouds water ect to your taste and CPU :)fs9.cfg changes I'm still experimenting with these but as of nowDISPLAY.Device.RADEON 9600 SERIES .0Mode=1152x864x32TableFog=0 <--this is needed on some older radeon cards no harm in having it TextureAGP=1 <---still playing with this 1 seams smoother 0 fasterPanelAsTexture=0 <----- 2d panel view appears faster TriLinear=1RenderToTexture=0MipBias=5MaV

I have a similar videocard but using two monitors (one for main panel in 2D cockpit view, other for some other panels). I am not satisfied with the performance. I would be happy with a more-or-less stable 19-20 FPS. in windowed mode at every 8-14 seconds refresh halts for a fraction of second then goes on and this gives a disturbing stop and jump of the aircraft and the sourroundings. It happens both during taxiing and in the air and quite "stable". In full screen mode taxiing is quite smooth, but during low level flight (no specific scenery however) refresh happens in gentle 1 sec pushes: stop-forward-stop-forward. Aircraft is quite smooth in outside view (as the view goes with the aircraft), but the scenery moves in this way on the screen. It is noticable from the cocpit view (2D) as well, though not very disturbing.Sometimes there are flickers on the screen and scenery drawing is not smooth.I have ATI RADEON 9600 non-prof 128Mb AGP card. Driver is ati2dvag.dll version 6.14.10.6587 (brand new, but it was the same version with the old one as well). Catalist is the newest.
