SweetFX - An Astounding Addon!

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I thought about appending this post to the other SweetFX discussions, but most of them were reporting "problems" of some sort or another.

I wanted to report that SweetFX is one of the sweetest (har-dee-har-har) addons that I have added in quite a while. While it is not perfect, it's pluses far outweigh the negatives.

First things first: FSX Gold, DX-10, REX Essential +Overdrive textures with Opus Weather engine, Orbx PNW. Lots of stuff working well together.

Installed SweetFX 1.4 with the default file settings. Dirt simple install - copy the file structure into the FSX.EXE directory.

My first FSX program load crashed. Oops. But that is not the first time such a thing has happened after a new addition, so I started it again and no problems. Started from 4S2 airport in Oregon and immediately noticed a difference. Color saturation was terrific, contrasts were much higher without being artificial, and detail - the sense of detail was astounding. I have attached some JPEG images - hopefully they do justice to the full-screen bitmaps. It was only when I was showing my son the differences that I discovered I could toggle on a static image, so the vantage points are shifted some as we travel merrily along.

   This is WITH SweetFX

   This is WITHOUT.

The last pairing was a revelation for me - even the wood on the dash took on a deeper richer look.

The single drawback that I have found (again, with default settings) is an increase in "jaggies" from anti-aliasing. There might be knob for this setting, don't know yet. But, I am keeping this addon - the vibrancy and increases in apparent detail are just too compelling to ignore!!!
