Ah, overclocking can cause it definitely. Haswell I found to be a b*itch to OC. Ivy bridge was a breeze. But If your voltages aren't under control it will be a nightmare. I delidded my 3770k, which I still have and don't use, temps were great and it overclocked like a champ. Intel burn test is great for testing OC stability.  What is your Vcore set to and what speed are you going for?  Are you up to date on your BIOS?

Overclock only if you can understand the risks involved. Turning down setting is cheaper than destroyed cpu and mobo. Overclocking is complicated and micromanaging at its worst. Small minority of see overclocking as futile with fsx if getting 10fps what good massive oc to fps to 14fps it jerky to fly anways. Want 60fps stick with fs9 as hardware upgrading costs thousands and fsx will never get 60 fps period on constant

basis.

I've overclocked three systems, but I've not had reboots before without a blue screen or some kind of error code to work with. But anyway, the jury is still out, I won't know for a little while longer if it is the overclock as the reboots can often not occur for a week or two.

 

Personally I don't like IBT. I find it unnecessarily vicious. Not even Intel or Asus test their CPU's with IBT. I prefer Prime and Aida.

 

The other point of course is that when Ivy was first released, IBT and Prime weren't validated for it. The latest version of Prime is okay, not sure if IBT is  now validated for Ivy and Haswell.

 

I needed 0.030 offset. 1.304 under load. Quite a high voltage for 4.5 GHz.

 

BIOS was reassembly up to date. However, I did notice the other day that Asus had just released another, so flashed it. System stability Asus say. Who knows, may be related. 

 

What I have to watch out for is changing too many variables, otherwise I won't have a clue what's causing the issue.

The Intel overclocking insurance is dirt cheap. Pay for it and your CPU is covered for overclocking damage.

 

I've overclocked three systems. Never damaged anything. Modern boards are quite hardy, they can stand up to overclocking, they're designed for it. And as I said, CPU insurance is cheap.
