Here is a dumb physics question for you smart people

Featured Replies

One of the four forces of nature encompassed by quantum mechanics is gravity........which acts on scales that span the universe.

It still has nothing to do with the original question which was not dealing with atomic/sub-atomic or galactic phenomena.

The basic fact is that if the original two bodies are not moving relative to each other, then they have the same velocity.

My comment was merely directed at your use of the word 'only' in your comment about quantum mechanics. I have no opinion on the op's question or whether or not quantum theory has anything to do with it. I only know that back when the US Navy used dirigible airships as aircraft carriers, the aircraft were reattached to the mothership by hooks dangling in the slipstream and reeled up and into the ship.

But quantum mechanics  are only applicable at the atomic/sub-atomic scale. Theere not needed/used for reeling in airships or docking spacecraft.

Of course it will, and at least some people are now better informed.
