Amazing Vid of a China Airways Boeing 737 going up in smoke......frightening......I think it's a -10 for the speed of the fire service. Four and a half minutes for the first fire truck to arrive! Two words, starts with f and finishes with useless!

What, were they on vacation today? They finally get there, and they fight the fire like it's their first day on the job.

 

What were they using? Marshmellows? Whipped cream? Whatever it was, they ran out of it about 7-8 minutes into it.

I agree on the slow response time. Also, was the fire truck on the right (in front of the aircraft) having problems with his truck or something?

What is even more dosconcerting is the time it took for a/c evacuation to start! The engine was already well alight before evacuation started! Fuel was pooling undere the a/c and it could easily have "gone-up much sooner than it did! The a/c should have already been fully evacuated at the start of the video! Oh, and spraying fire retardant foam onto smoke instead of the seat of the fire!!!!!

The link in the post above talks about the fire been started from a fuel leak. I always thought it was because of fuel pumps been left on in an empty tank. Or am I thinking of another incident?

This was recently on a TV program, if I remember correctly, the cause was a bolt piercing the fuel tank after the slats were retracted.  This didn't become apparent until the crew shutdown the engines (the thrust was blowing the fuel away from the engine) and it started dripping on the red hot rear nozzle causing it to ignite.
