OpenLC will only contain landclass and additional textures that suite the region for which the landclass is created (there will be 7 regions to cover the entire world). OpenLC will only work with FTXG. It will not include mesh or retouched airports!!! And, just to be sure, it also won't give you UTX-like roads and waters: it will of course give you 'UTX-like' landclass (but presumably more, better and more up to date since UTX landclass is a bit limited) Only FTX regions will bring you 'everything', as you said. That part is true. This means that UTX and mesh addons will only become obsolete when an FTX regions for that area has been released. I misread this post...http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/61436-ftx-global-openlc-worldwide-areas-rollout-plan-details/?p=560882 "It is 1km x 1km landclass and also some vector shaped landclass for forests etc. Nothing more" Then I remember reading this from one of the original announcements and this is where some confusion comes from. "The base product will include a FREE demo of FTX Global OpenLC, which is our new product being released in July/August that covers the *entire world* with OSM based custom landclass and vector data!" I cannot find the original post though. That was a quote from john. I got excited about the VECTOR data there. So anyway, thanks for the correction. I read these posts too fast and took them at face value. Assuming of course that I am correct that Vector often means roads and rivers and I saw "Vector" in these posts above and thought it was all in there. Very disappointing to hear otherwise. UTX is a product containing a lot of real world road map Vector data. It includes Roads, Rivers, Streams, Bridges, Landclass, Waterclass, and more. A lot of which was missing or misplaced in the Vector data shipped with FSX. They even fixed some airports but not all. Damn I hoped ORBX was doing this too. If OpenLC does not include these important VFR recognizable Vector data corrections for VFR points of reference on the ground, I will choose UTX over OpenLC (unless they blend?). It is more important to me to have accurate VFR points of reference below me than making sure that grass where sand should be is corrected. Another bonus is that UTX corrects most populated areas "size and shape" for towns and such. When I first bought it a few years ago, I could zoom out and look at it from above and compare to Google Earth Satellite view and it was really accurate. But I am reading further and it sounds like OpenLC will blend with UTX Vector Data? Got some more reading to do. This will get expensive. LOL. I also have to correct myself about airports. They will be releasing airports for FTXG. I thought they meant included in OpenLC. C.
July 19, 201312 yr I was also surprised by that 'superior AA' remark. You CAN indeed get reasonable AA by now in DX10, but certainly NOT 'superior...! Sorry J. I will qualify my comment (gotta be on your toes around here eh?)... Firstly I have an AMD card so I don't have "SGSS" like I had on my NVidia kit. ATI 4xSSAA is not QUITE as sharp as the NVidia go to AA mode of "8xS + 2xSGSS transparency) I was using on my 660Ti OC. My go to AA in DX9 is 4xSSAA and I found the default AA (Also 4 sample AA in DX10 + supersample enabled in my driver) was better looking and flew somehow smoother. These are shots from DX10 I took recently. Can you get better AA in DX9? Yup! I can go to 24xSSAA if I wanted some problems with FPS but boy howdie. Sharp as heck! Or my NVidia setup could do 8xSGSS if I wanted low fps. So ya. Anyone can do higher AA. My buddy was using 8xSSAA on his GTX680 with great performance in DX10 (according to him). That is all I meant by superior AA. I should have said superior AA performance. I asked how he got 8x and he put the line MultiSamplesPerPixel=8 in his config. Then he enabled Supersample in Inspector. 8xSSAA for DX10. Here is what I got for AA in DX10. Looked better to me than my 4xSSAA in DX9 is all I mean and it seemed I was getting better FPS in heavier situations. I was skeptical till I read this stuff. http://stevesfsxanalysis.wordpress.com/2012/07/17/dx9-antialiasing/ http://stevesfsxanalysis.wordpress.com/2012/07/17/dx10-8xaa-continued/ If his next patch wipes out 99.9% of the problems with FSDT and lights (which he claims it does), I will apply it and go back to DX10.
July 20, 201312 yr Add along with that 6.5 LOD setting, every graphic slider full to the right, A.I. at 25 percent, and ground vehicles at 20 percent. Water at full max. Clouds at 70 miles. Go to ORBX PNW at KORS. Stay in that area, flying over and around the islands, doing a few touch and go's, and then head towards Vancouver and the mainland...head north along the coast. See how long your flight lasts... Report back. I do all of that except except water is 2.0low. No reason to go higher IMO. AI is 100% (I use UT2).
July 20, 201312 yr If you did not already see it here is an old vid I made when trying Steve's fix in DX10, I pushed the sim to the max (almost), cockpit shadows, car traffic at 50% +, lens flare, bloom on +++, all sliders to the right BUT water at 2X high, and the bonus is....... LOD at 11.5 eeeeeeeee This was just for testing, this vid will not win any prizes as I'm panning a lot around the chopper (in and out) for testing purposes, it's not perfect as you will see some stutters here and there but the immersion in great when you add to it.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAznmL0fWcY Great vid. Thanks. What scenery?
July 20, 201312 yr But I am reading further and it sounds like OpenLC will blend with UTX Vector Data? Correct! I will use FTXG with OpenLC and UTX as my 'default' scenery and FTX regions whenever they are created for regions I like to fly. (gotta be on your toes around here eh?) LOL ^_^ I have to say I am following the DX10 improvements closely and maybe/probably I will give it another try with the next update/fix. It DOES sound interesting! (I've tried it twice and never was really satisfied with the results, but I am still not sure if things were actually installed properly because the installation was instant everytime while the readme states it should/could take a few minutes...)
July 20, 201312 yr Great vid. Thanks. What scenery? Miami city 2012 X http://www.drzewiecki-design.net/prodMIA2012_X.htm
July 20, 201312 yr Orbx has always said UTX is good to go with their product. They even show off previews with it enabled. I can't really tell that much difference, but that may be because I have yet to see a preview of a place I have been IRL. Sent from my Apple communications device. William Sequeira

Ya UTX and FTXG was never in question. I was worked about UTX playing nice with FTX OpenLC as they are both land class type addons. Sounds like they might work together. Probably with some things disabled in UTX is my guess. C.

Here is where I got the impression it did a similar job to UTX.... http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/58801-ftx-global-update-may-2013/ 3. The base product will include a FREE demo of FTX Global OpenLC, which is our new product being released in July/August that covers the *entire world* with OSM based custom landclass and vector data! FTX Global OpenLC will be priced as a AU$19.95 addon And as for airport, I missed that they had cancelled the plus pack. Still sounds to me like airports are getting added but I wrongly assumed it would be included in openlc. 7. We won't be releasing the "Plus Pack" announced earlier; instead we will release small addons as part of the FTX Global product line such as OpenLC, airports, cityscapes, bundles of POI 3D models and many other enhancements that you can purchase a la carte. These will be priced from $4.99 through to $29.99 - we want to make these addons as affordable as possible so the average FTXG addon price will be about $10-15 Gonna get expensive. Bah. It already has been. Lol.
July 21, 201312 yr Nick added a lot of new stuff in his thread.....more to come, and by the way, to whom ever do not agree with him and for what ever your reasons are..... you can ALWAYS go there and challenge him on what you think he's wrong on.....he will welcome you with open arms if you make sense. Nick is not stupid, if you make a good, valid point and show him why and where you disagree with him he will always "Give back to Cesar what is Cesar's".... three years ago I overclocked with him (we both had a system based on a 980x) and we had a ball finding how to get more out of our system, I gave him some of mine and he gave me some of his in good fun, Nick know is crap, and who ever think they know better PLEASE go and show him where....he will be the first one to say "I was wrong" if he is. http://www.simforums.com/forums/the-fsx-computer-system-the-bible-by-nickn_topic46211.html
July 22, 201312 yr There's a ton on info there, and he has put a lot of work into it, It's a fantastic contribution. I don't know why he is sticking to that biblical chapter and verse format tho' That's some major commitment to a bit.
July 22, 201312 yr It's amazing. Not just a guide to FSX but hardware, software, pc in general. Lot of years of experience and knowledge on display here. Brent Baker
July 22, 201312 yr Nick added a lot of new stuff in his thread Last I checked, this was a thread about ORBX's upcoming global. I might have missed the name change though. Ryan L.
July 22, 201312 yr Last I checked, this was a thread about ORBX's upcoming global. I might have missed the name change though. This "bible" stuff is to help simmers with ANY kind of problems they may have with their FSX, and that include add-on, since Orbx is in the bag (as they make add-on for FSX) I think this is the right place to post Nick's experience with FSX.... I don't know if Avsim's rules can allow this to be pinned (after completion) but if that can be done the "THE FSX COMPUTER SYSTEM: THE BIBLE - BY: NickN" should be pinned in the MOBO, RAM, CPU's & Other Hardware section of Avsim's forum....just my 2 cents.
