FSX Fatal Error and restarting FSX

Recommended Posts

Ok guys, I`m on FSX since it`s released and never had any problems but now there it is. Everything was cool `till couple of minutes ago when I wanted to start my FSX and prepare for flight. Everything was normal, it loaded initial screen and than puf! Fatal Error bla bla bla restarting FSX.... I didn`t instal anything new for months, and I`ve tried reinstalling microsoft visual c++ 2010 and still nothing. Also tried with UIAutomationCore.dll but still nothing. Any help is good

Microsoft Visuals - Your Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 program is completely out of date. Here's the latest - http://www.microsoft...s.aspx?id=26347. When FSX and FSX addons run, they look for a certain version of MS Visuals.  Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 is completely out of date too. Here's the latest - http://www.microsoft...s.aspx?id=26368. And, just in case the 2010 version is out-of-date (no indications it loaded), here's the latest version of that very important program (believe PMDG is using the 2010 version) - http://www.microsoft...s.aspx?id=26999.  Microsoft Visuals are used by developers to make sure your product(s) were installed properly as they intended.  You need all of them.  They are not backward compatible.

Best regards,

Jim

You can also use Windows Updates to download the latest version.

Windows Update will not do this.

Jim

Your crash report indicates that you do not have the proper versions to Microsoft Visual 2005, 2008, and 2010 installed.

Jim

Windows Update will not do this.

Best regards,

You can use it to get the latest version with all the security updates.

That is just a security update to MSV 2005 SP1.  Yes, windows update will post security updates to old programs like the MSV2005.  They have to do this periodically as they find security issues with the software.

Best regards,

Jim

I too am at a loss. After running FSX for at least two years it has suddenly crashed. I cant even start it anymore!

I uninstalled all my add-ons (that took me a whole day) then uninstalled FSX, re-booted my system and installed FSX again. After re-booting the system

I started FSX, no problems. Then I installed SP1, re-booted the system and started FSX, again, no problems. SP2 was then installed, re-booted and crash!

Here is my system :

Cougar Tower

i7-2600K @ 3.40Ghz

GeForce GTX560Ti, Driver 320.49 running @ 1920x1080,60

16 GB-RAM

WIN7 Home Premium

6.1.7601, Service Pack 1, build 7601

As soon as I uninstall SP2 again, everything is fine!

I installed the 320.49 driver last night and then installed SP2 and it worked! (Firefox has also crashed at the same time as FSX, but it too was running again after the driver update). When I tried it again this evening, the same thing, crash at start-up (Firefox too!).

I am sure that it all started when the last WIN7-Update was put on, but I could be mistaken (who doesnt blame MS for everything!).

As I said at the start, two years of running without problems, now this!

If there is anyone out there who could help me, you would make my day! (firehawk44 ???)

(Just looked at my Visual c++ version, its 2010 x86, 10.0.40219)

Phil

(Just looked at my Visual c++ version, its 2010 x86, 10.0.40219)

You need more than one version.  FSX needs MS Visual 2005.  FSX SP2 needs 2005 w/SP1.  As far as I know, the only addon developer using the 2010 version is PMDG when they issued SP1c to the PMDG737.  MS Visuals are not backward compatible.  You need them all.  A lot of people are encountering problems installing SP2 and I do not know why.  I can only surmise you have a sharing problem.  You want to be sure you are sharing the FSX folder(s) with everyone and you do that by going to the FSX folder and right clicking it and then clicking on Sharing, then following the instructions on sharing it if it is not already shared.  You can also go on the Internet and download a program called "Take Ownership".  It will place an item in your registry whereby when you go to the FSX folder and right click on it, you'll see the option to Take Ownership.  Once you select that it will give you ownership of everything.  It has helped some others.  You also want to right click on the SP2.exe and select run as Administrator.  You need to turn Off or disable your User Access Controls too.

If you had this problem after a recent Windows Update, crashes have occurred after installing new updates.  You can simply go to Windows Update and look in the left column for Installed Updates or Recent Updates and then uninstall each one.  Once completed, then see if SP2 will install.  If it does, then you can reinstall the Windows Updates but only after SP2 has been reinstalled and running properly.

Best regards,

Jim

This same problem has plagued me over the last week, at first I thought it was my video card drivers ( AMD radeon). Although they were up to date I experimented by rolling them back a few versions. This did not stop the crashes. I was not looking forward to reinstalling FSX with my numerous 3rd party aircraft and sceneries. I recalled reading in Forums from various sites to remove the FSX.cfg file and letting FSX rebuild it.

With nothing to lose I moved the cfg file to another folder, started FSX - and it worked! I have now successfully added all my aircraft and addons to the fsx.cfg and it's working fine. I have flown about 20 hours now with no crashes. There are a few small tweaks I added like the HIGHMEM (google it) but just let FSX do it's thing.

Hope this helps

Once again , I`ve deleted all MV C++ versions and installed them again and still the same. Strange thing is that I can go in every menu, I can go to settings, missions, everywhere except on FREE FLIGHT. When I select free flight, it just crashes....

Thanks for your post, Jim (firehawk44), I shall try everything out which you wrote in your reply. As its running late, I wont get round

to this until the weekend though, but I will get back to you, thanks!

Oh, I have got a box-load of Visual C++ from 2005 to 2008. 2010 was just the latest and would be from PMDG 737NG.

Thanks again.

Phil

One of the best fixes for FSX crashes.  Unfortunately we tweak Fsx.cfg to death and get in bad settings or tweaks and crashes start happening.  Best to start with a fresh new fsx.cfg.  Thanks for posting.

I just started having this exact same problem. I have not found a solution yet but I am wondering if I didn't get a windows update that may have done it.
