Hey folks,

tomorrow I will get TrackIR 5, but the man that i am buying it from doesn't have clip pro in stock and he will have in a week or so. he told me that i don't have to use clip pro to get track IR working, and when he will get that I'll take it. I have tried to ask the difference with and without, and handed up getting dizzy. so I'll ask you guys please help me to understand, what does the clip pro add?

cheers.

The pro clip will clip on to the side of your headset while the default track clip (which comes with all track ir 4 &5) is a flimsier clip that can only clip onto the front of a baseball cap. I don't have the track clip pro, but in using the track clip I find I have constant problems with sensitivity and loosing track with head movements. I understand it can be set in profiles, but every now and then after finding the "zone" a few days later, it will act up again.

Track clip pro will clip on the side of your headset, so I believe (though not confirmed) will give much better response to head movements and less chance of loosing tracking.

Having said that, I have heard many complaints of the pro clip snapping and requiring you to either tape it up or revert to the default track clip.

I would probably invest in a track clip pro eventually to make the comparison and see which provides the best tracking.

Welcome to track IR 5 , several times more sensitive then previous versions, and will change your simming experience forever!!!!

The basic TrackIR comes with a reflective metal clip that fits on the bill of a ball cap. It will definitely work but with this passive system, the camera is very sensitive to ambient light in the room. The Track Clip Pro has infrared emitters (lights) so the camera sensitivity does not need to be so highly tuned. Thus working better in a very brightly lit room.

I used the hat clip for a good while before buying the Pro. It worked ok as long as there wasn't much sunlight in my sim room.

Hope this helps.

I did not know the pro clip had active emitters. Does that mean it has to be plugged in to USB for it to work? But you are right about sun light on track clip.

I could not fly between 430 and 500 pm during fall and spring since the sun would shine perfectly through the basement window in my face (moving the computer was not an option) and it would overwhelm the reflectors causing the IR to be unusable.

Thanks both for the Info. It's really rare in my place that the sun shine into my room so I hope I'll be fine with that!

Yep. Somewhere on the interwebs there is diy on how to make a battery pack for it. I have the TIR cable tied to my headphone cable to reduce the confusion.

When I got my TrackIR4 many years ago I also got the track clip pro.

It worked fine but you forget its there and go to scratch you head and slam your hand into it! I eventually broke it and had to order a replacement. I the mean time I used the

Basic clip that goes on a baseball cap and preferred it. I kicked myself for ordering the track clip pro and sold it on ebay when it arrived. Mind you I fly in a home theatre in the basement so no light issues. I have flea's

I have Track Clip Pro and love it so much I bought a spare, so I would never be without it.

It is fragile, so just be gentle with it.  My first one lasted a couple of years with no problem.  When I bought a replacement, I just ordered two of them because I hated to be without it so much when it broke.

I used the pro clip for a year and then it broke. I've been using the regular clip for over a year and never noticed any difference.

The "baseball cap model" reflective clip works fine when there is no ambient light directly behind you. If you adjust the sensitivity of the TrackIR you can overcome some diffuse light sources. On the other hand, the reflective clip tends to fly off your baseball cap exactly to the spot in the dark room where it is certain that you will step on it.
