C208 HD wont start I mean th engine wont kick over.

Recommended Posts

OK this is a new one to me.  I think I need an aircarft mechnic.  I have been flying the C208 for years and all of a sudden today it wont fire the engine.  I mean the starter sound is there and I have normal indications but the engine wont start.  It sounds as if I am out of gas but the tanks are full and I am moving the condition lever to mid way after a few seconds.... This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen.  no other AC in my hanger has this problem.  Also, to make matters more strange if I start a difference AC and then switch to the C208 the engine is running and if I kill the engine and try to restart it it starts right up.

The only thing I did was make a small change to the breaks in the aircraft.cfg file but I dont see how that could have been the issue.  Anyone got any ideas.???

regards,

Tom

Haven't been in it for awhile but I'll try to help.  Please reply with the start up steps you go through, you may be missing a switch.

Did you remember to turn on the boost pump and ignition, for example?

Review the checklists in the docs and take it step by step.  If that doesn't work, try reverting back to the original cfg file.

Good luck

I suspect you have recently saved a new Default flight - some of the settings are carried over from the Default flight, and it's possible that something in the other aircraft is turned off. Try saving a new Default for now with the C172 shut down, and then see if the 208 will start. Don't worry, I'm sure you haven't terminally broken it!

The other option is to try Ctrl-E for the auto engine start procedure. I'm not sure if that works with the Carenado 208 though, and I'm at the other side of the world from my SimPC at the moment lol. If that starts the engine, save a C208 flight which you can access anytime you want to fly this load-lugger.

All not sure what fixed it but its working again.  seems that something else was getting carried over as SkipperMac suggested. I simply saved a default of the 208 with the engine working and everything works fine now.  dumb stuff but it works.

I had loaded the new CT 206 which has a cold and dark cockpit option that might have been the issue.  Again thanks for the help.

Just an FYI, I know this is an old topic but if anyone should experience the same thing, you may want to just look up at the ceiling between the two seats. You'll see a fuel selector switch and it'll likely be in the off position if you had saved a default flight of a different plane. This happened to me several times after I saved a default flight and I think it was do to the fuel system control of many of the fighter jets that caused the switch to go to that position if the jet was saved as a default plane. I am having a similar problem - just loaded the C208 and went to start it. Went through the pre-flight, and everything seemed to turn on. But when I hit the start switch, it started spooling up and then did a sort of repeat - whining up, stop, whining up again, stop...never did get anywhere near the correct % on N1.   And finally it is acting like the battery is dead...although I turn on the master switch, nothing when I turn on the boost pump, nothing when I turn on the No. 1 avionics switch (all displays are dead) and no starting when I throw the start switch.

I have several A2A aircraft that need to have a battery charge once inn awhile (a trip to the hangar), but I don't see anything like this in the C208. Is there some way to deplete the battery? And if so, how do I recharge it?

Well, I quit FSX for awhile, and came back this morning. Restarted FSX, and loaded in the C208. As per another suggestion, first thing I checked was the fuel switches in the overhead, and both were in the 'OFF' position, so I turned them on. Then went through the start-up procedure again, and got the engine started. But not without a little trouble - seems that it takes only a few seconds to get N1 up to the point where you have to turn on the conditioner. It took several tries before I got the sequence right.

Problem is still the battery, though. IF - you run it down (almost did it again by waiting to turn on the generator - the avionics went dead until I switched the generator on), do you have to end the flight and reload the aircraft? Other than the standard Cessna manuals that come with the aircraft, there is sparse documentation on this plane. It would be nice to have a Carenado manual on how to operate their model.
