Is there an easy way to setup for approach landings in FSX?

Featured Replies

One thing I like in X-Plane is that you can choose any runway and select a 3nm or 10nm distance to land. Is there anything remotely like this on FSX. I find this perfect to practice your landings.

Pretty sure there is a payware program for this. Sorry, I can't remember it's name.

It's called "Instant Approach" Google it and you will find it! It's very fun to use as I come from X-plane to, so I know the feeling. Hope this helped!

Hrmm seems like the product has been replaced by FSFlightSchool Pro 2013 and is included as part of the features.

Ahh thanks Gregg for clearing that up for me.

Check Lord of the Landing, here in the Avsim Library. Developer's name is Dongjin Shin and if you do a search using the name you will find a bunch of little utilities that may be helpful.

I wish the apps had a way to set up X miles out from a fix (Initial, Intermediate, or Final).

I'd also recommend Lord of the Landing ("LoLa"), at least try it before getting a payware program!

You can do that with lord of the landing, you can also choose an offset. And it evaluates the landing (vertical speed, etc...)

So which one is the better of the two mentioned?

As stated above, I'd really suggest to use LoLa at first, simply because it's freeware! I can't comment on the other program, I've only used LoLa, and for my purposes it is enough. And I really like the evaluation part of it, that's really nice feedback to improve one's landing skills.

If I may; Since many don't realise, Ideal Flight builds infinite routes you can fly complete or jump to next waypoint, TOD, approach, or final, and when you get there you have the depleted fuel and sim time and controls set as you were. Route can include GPS waypoints to touchdown any runway, includes weather to set winds for any landing. It's a big fully featured program not just an approach maker. Big update coming soon, please see the website and forum, there is a free version download that does quite a lot for free. Thank you.
