July 26, 201312 yr What about those of us who fly for entertainment? Buy the LM P3D Commercial Version for $199 (Would recommend waiting now for 2.0 release) If you are into FS, and are going to spend hours using it, the cost per hour becomes quite low, Compared with Cost of PC, Internet, electric, addons, etc, $199 is very good value for money, and includes UPDATES for same major version (ie 2.x) AND FORUM TECHNICAL SUPPORT, and an opportunity to make suggestions and recommendations, that could end up in the product. $199 for UNLIMITED P3D Forum tech support alone, is a bargain !! Then there is always Fs9, FSX, X-Plane, etc etc. so you have a "Choice" The advantage of LM developing P3D, is that they are developing it mainly for their own Internal use, as well as small spinoff for the limited outside market, so the outside market does not have to cover the majority of the development costs etc, etc. No idea what PMDG is thinking about ref another FS system --- but it's an interesting "spin". I cannot see PMDG having the resources or capital to develop a PMDG FS. ( but then, what do I know ) :unknw: Best chance with Microsoft would probably be trying to get them to update the code for stability and using modern cpu and memory. Maybe the most one can hope for, is a FSX SP3, to correct issues with Windows & Windows 8. etc. -- At this might create a few more sales for Windows 8 -- but I cannot see that decision being made for a positive ROI reason -- so don't hold your breath. It's actually far more likely, that the FS community will come up with any needed work around, to make FSX more compatible with Windows 8 -- (ie UIautomationcore.dll fix, FSUIPC's fix to help with some FSX crashing issues, etc etc )
July 26, 201312 yr Signed, sealed and delivered. It's kind of like the lottery, you can't win if you don't play. One can only hope though  Chris Sunseri
July 26, 201312 yr Moderator Watching Steve Balmer dance around like a sweaty orangutang, I wouldn't keep my hopes held high. It's sad they cancelled FSX, and I remember buying each version of MSFS since its early days. Unless somebody knows something we don't, the only contenders in the market at the moment are X-Plane, P3D and Aerofly. Aerofly is a game, P3D has a questionable license, and X-Plane is developing and maturing. My bets are on X-Plane, as much as it has "warts", it's the only simulator we have which is being actively developed.

July 26, 201312 yr Look at Windows 8 garbage "apps" and how they tried to monetize FS - Their anticompetitive business practices always lead to them having absolute control over every aspect of their products so they can force feed it to you at the price point they want. Oh and if you complain or don't like it, tough. They will tell you what you want and how to play it or take their marbles and go home... This is what you get when there is no competition for too long. You forget your roots and those who bought your product in the first place to make you who you are. Do you really want a dumbed down metro FS 11 that you need a touch screen to play? No thanks MS badly wants out of the PC business and PC gaming in general. The only gaming they want is their rubbish console where they can control every aspect of it... Steve McNitt
July 26, 201312 yr A few things you might want to consider: Phil Harrison, Corporate vice president at Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business, announces Microsoft Studios is investing over $1 billion into exclusive Xbox One games content, twice of that of its competitors. Unless FS 11 is going to be an Xbox One release, there is no money for it.
July 26, 201312 yr Near as I can remember, most of the surviving programmers attached to both FSX and Flight! were ultimately sent off to a Microsoft-run labor camp someplace in the former Soviet Union. I think the same one where they sent the lead developer for Windows 8, but I can't be positive. Personally, I'm against this kind of corporate vengeance against former employees, but apparently it's the new normal these days.
