Microsoft really hasn't sold its assets regarding FSX. They have still full rights to sell FSX, own the code and whatnot. They are selling it right now! Microsoft licensed their ESP code to LM and it had nothing to do FSX, though those two are intherently the same software, but still different product. MS didn't practically give away anything, just sold the source code license of ESP. Only but is in the contract between those two companies.

What else was agreed between those two companies is just foolish speculation, which is based on nothing if one hasn't seen the contract. There may be some restrictions to both parties, for example that MS doesn't continue to operate on professional market (at least with ESP based product) and Prepar3D doesn't use the code for consumer market. Or none of those and completely something else. Contract is probably dozens of pages long and probably quute complex. MS still has FSX source code and rights for it.

This was about greed not about the simulator itself. What simulator/game can you list has been around since the mid 80s. I dont think anything comes close. Thats close to 30years!

Microsoft clearly doesnt care anymore because of some higher executives. To say flight simulation had no market purely based because flight failed, is just pure wrong IMO. It was arcade candy marketed to a game console and no where near what FSX was. It failed as soon as that decision was made. If there was an FS11 you can be sure this would be the platform king at present.

As for P3D, whos to say no one steps in and leases what finished version comes up and makes a home/entertainment package away from the whole commercial product. (Aerosoft? Orbx? LOL)

Interestingly MS doesnt care about flight simulator but they didnt sell the code to LM, they essentially leased it. What for if they didnt care about it anymore.

I signed it just because im a fan, but I have a better chance of flying to the moon , and I dont fit in most cars let alone that tiny cramped space on a space ship. But hey something has to be done about our hobby. How long can devs push the boundaries of FSX anyhow and especially when there is so much potential in what a simulator could do.

Instead of an entire new FSX ill be one happy camper if they just released a SP3 with multicore support, full GPU and RAM usage. Also some kinda rain effect on the VC windshield similar to new DX11 games lol. PMDG, ORBX REX etc would handle all the Scenery and aircraft and there we have it, FS11.

I agree with majority here. Not going to happen. I signed anyway cause it only takes a few seconds to do so. Like the lottery..."Hey, you never know"

Microsoft recently took 900 million write down on bad products. Flight Simulstor is not profitable it's customer base is small. Xplane is the of future flight simulator and P3d is not for most people as it not meant for personal use according to the EULA stipulations. P3d can yanked those licenses at any time. Petitions like this are a waste of time as companies need to make money for shareholders,

It's really no secret on how to get MS to create FS11...Just tell them Apple has a flight sim in the works. Guarantee they will aggressively seek to destroy the competition, profits be darned!

A picture is worth 1000 words  .. so maybe this is a way to get the point across.

What you are asking Microsoft to do with FSX

What LM got from MS.

What you really want in a Flight Sim.

Note:  COST of what you really want  is not much more than the cost of what you are asking MS to do to FSX  (for a limited market),    but with the end results being very different.

And lastly

What LM did to FSX. (ESP)   ===>   P3D

( A few changes, much more expensive, and not for everyone)

It certainly can't hurt and just like the lottery, you can't win if you don't buy a ticket.

I signed.    Oops...someone else said that too.

I signed.

I swore to myself that I'd make my one comment and disappear from this thread, but...

Yes, it can hurt - though not much - gnats are gnats whether on the plus or minus side.  Only around a thousand signatures in this time frame speaks volumes - or in this case the lack thereof.  C'mon, folks.  This is a company investing billions on games, and expecting ROI in proportion to that.  A few thousand melodramatic appeals isn't even a squeaky wheel in this business.

Look elsewhere to someone more interested in this niche, and expect to pay a little more as always happens in specialty markets.  The masses, and companies like MS, have gone elsewhere.

Scott

These stupid petitions actually do more harm than good as the participation numbers are always ridiculously low. All they do is put another nail in an already buried coffin.

I'll second that thought. Think about it. IF Microsoft actually had interest in your opinion (and we should already know the answer to that) it would seem to me that they would use the number of responders to this (or any other recent desperate poll) as an indicator of the size of the potential market for a future sim. Those numbers are not going to sway them. Frankly, they made an attempt that did not pan out. Why that was the case matters not. They have moved on. Time to do the same here.

Best chance with Microsoft would probably be trying to get them to update the code for stability and using modern cpu and memory.

And don't say that LM is doing that for us. When they are done we will be left out in the cold.

A new flight simulator would cost what... 20 millon, 40, 60, 80, more?

How do you get that money back from a few thousand enthusiasts?

Only possible way I could see is with a subscription base like LM is doing. Like I said in another thread, LM may be avoiding the entertainment space because MS retains certain rights to code changes and using it in that space.

We don't know all the line items in the agreement between MS and LM.

If by a chance it cost someone 20 millions to create a new simulator or continue with FSX . All they have to do is charge 100 dollars for the new sim or the upgrade . Then if by any chance we would have 250,000 simmers purchasing it they would get at lease 25 million in return . But hey who can guarantee them that 250,000 people will buy a  new simulator for 100 bucks . If the community continues growing if we hit 1 million active simmers around the world by 2030  who knows what might happen .
