you would do better launching a program to get the millions  of youngsters involved in playing pc games  interested in the flightsim game ,then some company might be interested in creating a new flightsim ,developers need to see a market for there products ,which from their lack of any action they do not ,apart from LM which is mainly for their own customer base ,I would imagine MS is more interested in their $900 million reported write down than any new flightsim game

Microsoft started developing FS11, and, because of the limited market and massive development cost,  to modernize the existing code, needed to charge $199 for it   ...   would you buy it ?

If NO,  then you are not realistic about getting an advanced FS11.

If YES,  then go buy P3D  @ $199,   under the commercial license that allows ANYONE to use it.

You already have what you are Basically Petitioning for:   further development of FSX  to a more advanced Flight Sim  ...    why are you wasting time,  trying to get MS  to do the same thing, that LM is already doing. ?

ACES did a good job, and there were great Guy,  but maybe its time that a new team took over, and brought  FS  into the 21st Century.    LM would seem to have that team,  working on P3D.

Is it that you think $199 to too much to pay for a FS that cost Multi-millions dollars, to develop and maintain.  ?

The credit card payment probably needs to go through in the cat's name though.

And the cat should be in "Full time education" to qualify  .

Seriously, I hope Microsost is listening, because they are the guys who have the source code it took decades to build, and the only ones able to do something about it.

I doubt anyone who worked within the ACES studio has the full insight into the entire source code. Typically one developer works on one aspect of the sim, and another on a different area of the simulation.

Even if somebody somehow managed to get a full copy of the entire FSX source code it's still Microsoft property. A no go I'm afraid.

Of course we can always try to convince them to make the source code public to start with.

Lockheed Martin caters to the professional and training market. Microsoft caters to the entertainment market. There's a difference.

Just like the "I am developing a new flight sim; what features would you like?" type threads, these are pointless, and just entice the easily led and naive.

Dirk.

Lockheed Martin caters to the professional and training market. Microsoft caters to the entertainment market. There's a difference.

And Microsoft doesn't  think supporting the flight simulation entertainment market is worthwhile.

So in the end, those of us who fly for entertainment get the shaft (or X-Plane, if they ever get their act together).

No. You got what you paid for - a $50 game.

So ???    ANYONE can purchase the Commercial License version of P3D, and use it virtually however they like..    ie.  to sit at home and fly a plane in a flight simulator.  etc etc.

You are really missing the whole point   -- as a Commercial licensed user of P3D,  you can use P3D "to have fun" , with few restrictions.

In Practice,  the DIFFERENCE is that FSX cost about $60, and could be purchased in stores  etc (as entertainment software),  while P3D costs about $199, and  can only be purchased directly from LM.

If you are content with FSX,  then you buy FSX.

If you want more, you pay more, and get P3D.

IF, MS were to produce a FS11, it would not be unreasonable  to expect, in 202x  (whenever it was finally released),  that it would cost nearer to $199 in any case.

These days,  one pays $60+  for just one advanced aircraft addon  -- is it really so unreasonable to expect to pay $199 for the whole NEW  & ADVANCED simulator.

Its a VERY DIFFERENT economic world  now,  that it was when MS was developing FS, or even when FSX was released.

Probably the only reason you can now get an advanced FS like P3D for such a low prices, is that the majority of P3D's development is funded by LM internal Commercial needs, and not by sales to a dwindling number of MS FS enthusiasts.

You are really missing the whole point

I'm afraid it's you who are missing the point.

Lockheed Martin is developing P3D to build cost-effective simulation solutions for the customized training  needs of its military and civil government customers. Lockheed Martin decided those customers will provide the financial justification for P3D. P3D will be valuable in marketing and winning such contracts.

Microsoft decided  that its retail customers don't  provide the financial justification forFSX11.

As I said, there is a difference.

Fsmp - your point is exactly correct

mgh - unfortunately in my opinion you are the one who is missing the point, it is of no one' s concern who LM is developing for as long as you have the opportunity to benefit from the situation i.e. the ability to purchase the product in either educational or professional form, in the end by LM allowing to sell their simulation product to the public we the enthusiasts are the ones that reap the benefit

In the end we all want the latest and the greatest but are not willing to pay for it

FTX global just came out $99 and PMDG 777 will likely cost the same, plush countless of other addons we have purchased throughout the years, so why is everyone moaning and frowning about a $199 price tag for a full professional simulation - anyone can purchase that , there are NO restrictions, or you can be a perpetual student and buy the exact same program for $49 and be lucky about it

LM is developing the next generation of flight simulator wether you like it or agree with it is irrelevant , just accept it as a fact

And finally as stated before by fsmp "put up or shut up" if you are willing to buy it

Bo Klop

There IS a difference, and what I say is  "SO WHAT"

Whatever there "reasons", the point is that an ongoing development version of FSX is available, to meet the needs of anyone in  FS Community who is looking for the "next version"  of FSX.

The bottom line is that FSX is still being developed, as P3D  -- by a Company that has the reasons and resources to do so, and the "Spin off" is , that for about $199,  ANYONE  can purchase & use this Flight Simulator,  for virtually  whatever they want, as it is a Commercial License.

The real DIFFERENCE is:  The P3D development team listens to those who have purchased the product, gives Tech Support, and responds to user  input.

I really don't understand the obsession in trying to get MS  to do something they have quite legitimately decided not to do, just because a very small number "want it, and want it now."

ANYONE can purchase & use this Flight Simulator, for virtually whatever they want

As long as it isn't for entertainment purposes, which is what I currently use FSX for. So unless P3D changes their EULA, highly unlikely, there exists no upgrade path for me as far as FSX is concerned.
