Petition: Rehire ACES studios and resume work on Flight Simulator 11

Featured Replies

mgh - unfortunately in my opinion you are the one who is missing the point

You are still missing the point of this sub-thread which is about why Lockheed  Martin is developing P3D and Microsoft isn't developing FS11

Those who understand that realise there is no point in petitioning Microsoft because, as I previously said, Microsoft doesn't think supporting the flight simulation entertainment market is worthwhile but Lockheed Martin thinks supporting its military and commercial market is.

Which is why LM bought the ESP instead of the FSX code.

only around 1700 supporters signed it so far   oh well, WE have FTX GLOBAL to make our FSX/P3D happy.

The bottom line is that FSX is still being developed, as P3D  -- by a Company that has the reasons and resources to do so, and the "Spin off" is , that for about $199,  ANYONE  can purchase & use this Flight Simulator,  for virtually  whatever they want, as it is a Commercial License.

I would actually pay 199 if I could afford it and the upgrade to FSX features and bugs was substantial. And I see the point as anyone can buy a Professional version of Office or not and buy a student or home version or whatever other software.

The problem is , that we are still at the mercy of the 3PDs.   If V2 comes out, and the language is pretty strict about only a commercial corporate or military enviroment, then the fact anyone can buy the pro version is irrelevant if all or most of the 3Pds suddenly drop development addons for it. What good is it to have if there are no addon aircraft and other enhancements. Especially PMDG which is the pinnacle of it all. Im really hoping for it, but its a very very big Question Mark.

What you're asking is for a company to make a product that they can almost guarantee will lose money.

Good luck with that one....

This petition seems a little too optimistic for me, especially with the fact that Steve Ballmer is the CEO. But we can all dream about FS11, can't we?

I'm still on fsx but P3D is the future.

I have signed but dont expect mr Ballmer to pay any heed at as he has a long track record of cock ups and consistently giving the public what he thinks the public needs rather than what the public wants.

As for P3D there is no future there unless they go 64 bit

Be careful what you are asking for..

One of the reasons why so many developers have been able to push the envelope  with their addons, is because FSX is a frozen version.

The sort of improvements, that people seem to be "DEMANDING" of MS,  would most likely make a lot of existing addons, obsolete, and incompatible with a future FS11.

Even if MS had an about turn, and crazy as it really seems, decided to develop a "significant" update to FSX   ( as I type this, I realize just how ridiculously  unlikely  this would be), it would be quite some time (years) before anything hit the shelves in any case.

And then,  (like FLIGHT), I suspect that many would complain, because it was not what "they thought"  they wanted,  or  "DESERVED" to have, -- or was too expensive  -- etc etc etc.

In any case, I am sure MS has far more important thing to think about than FS11 ---

ie  Windows 9  !!

BTW:  Whatever happened to the "CLOUD" based FS, that was being talked about in recent years ??

Pointless petition as Microsoft is writing down losses lately and marketplace has changed. Microsoft would lose money making a flight simulator to exceed what fsx does there no return on investment can't subsidizes losses when the profitable pathways are controlled by payware makers for planes and scenery. Better off moving over to Xplane or making improvements to fligh gear.

Changing to 64-bit (a many demand) would render all C-based  gauges unusable together with all other .dlls.

True, and I wouldn't count on the likes of RealityXP reappearing and updating their plugins any time this century

And users would complain if they were expected to pay for updates

And then Austin Meyer can make more millions! In the meantime, 3rd parties won't be making a ROI (return on investment) until XP picks up more speed. That could be a while, as FSX just seems to be in continual reincarnation.
