Scenery.cfg Priority Order - So Confused

Hey,

 

Even though I am using P3D, but I am posting here b/c of FSX/P3D both have the Scenery.cfg order, and I am so confused on how this file works.  I also have the SceneryConfigtool 1.1.

 

My question - I have a clean install with FS Global Mesh Added.  Shouldn't this mesh be the first scenery all the way at the bottom? by default it places somewhere in the middle.

 

I am planning to install some Orbx Sceneries after the mesh.

 

Here is my Scenery.cfg - and can I remove sceneries (uncheck in SceneryConfigTool) which I am not using?

 

And Shouldn't the FS Global Mesh (In Blue Bold) be the Very first entry as it is mesh - instead it comes after Base Sceneries.

 

I have googled / and searched avsim forums on this.  I am officially confused about this file

FS will display the best mesh available (highest resolution) regardless of priority.

 

Having it where it is is OK.

 

The only time mesh priority is an issue is when you have multiple entries with the same resolution.

 

In that case FSX will respect priority.

 

Should you install an addon that has it's own mesh, you would want that addon above your global mesh in the Scenery Library.

 

Remember also that priority only affects multiple areas of the same scenery elements. Mesh priority has no effect on landclass as an example.

No, as I said priority only applies to like scenery elements.

 

FS reads the complete scenery.cfg before loading anything and can sort out the different scenery elements.

 

In fact, due to an FS9 peculiarity, I have my global addon mesh at the top of the scenery library. That applies to FS9 only.

 

Your scenery.cfg is just fine, go fly.

Do I have a conflict between number 101 and 105

I don't own the product.

 

Is there no documentation?

 

Does the developer have a support forum or website?

 

Why do you think there is a conflict?

AES says it will disable that one with the lowest priorty..

Both area 101 and 105 are referencing the same physical folders, so there is no benefit to having both active (I don't know if there is harm, doubt it but never tried it.)  I would just set area 101 as Active=FALSE.

I would take one of them out as they both reference the same directory.  Just make sure LocalMeshes is higher than the others (on top of the rest of the mesh directories....technically it won't make a difference).

 

After posting my original question, I am definitely become a master on this particular file over the months of insane tweaking with addons etc.

 

It seems that FS Global and FS Ultimate have all the files in the same directory - so only activate one of them, and you get it all from that scenery entry

I have to say that I rigidly followed the following protocol in FS9

 

1 Local Airports

2 Regions and regional photoscenery

3 Landclass (where applicable)

4  Mesh

5  and beyond default scenery.

 

In FSX, I still do this generally, but have found that FSX is far less picky than FS9 in this respect and I've run with scenry in the wrong order several times with no ill effect.
