October 30, 200421 yr I think I know the correct answers to my two questions below but I thought I'd better check!!I have a Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB card.1. In the FS9.CFG I have two entries:-[DISPLAY.Device.RADEON 9600 SERIES .0]Mode=1024x768x32MipBias=8Filter=0[DISPLAY.Device.RADEON 9600 SERIES .0]Mode=800x600x32MipBias=5TriLinear=1RenderToTexture=0I'm sure I can get rid of the first one of these or keep them both. It doesn't matter? Also, I don't have the card listed in the Display.CFG file. I'm assuming that this isn't a problem.
October 30, 200421 yr Author I would try renaming your fs9.cfg to fs9.OLD, restart the flight simulator, let it stabilize, set the display preferences, then exit the flight simulator. Compare whether you have two sections in the new fs9.cfg. The default settings are not usually written to the fs9.cfg file. Only when you change from the default does a setting get recorded. Generally, you shouldn't have two sections.Sometimes fs9.cfg gets corrupted and that is why you see a recommendation to delete or rename the original fs9.cfg file to see if a new default fs9.cfg file will fix a problem. If your card is not referenced in the display.cfg file, then MS didn't find it necessary to override certain parameter for your card.W. October 30, 200421 yr There actually in't any need to rename the WhOLE FS9.cfg. Just delete BOTH references above, then reboot the sim - it will start up in basic settings and then all you have to do is select the resolution and filtering mode according to your preference. The other way you will have to replace all amended entries to the .cfg file, any additions for things like old modules AND re-do all your assignments if any have been changed from default. You should also do this every time you change the drivers on the card to force FS to recognise the new drivers.Allcott
October 31, 200421 yr Author I like recommending methods that can return to the original configuration, if the cause is not related to area recommended for change. I am cautious in having users deleting things from files in hopes it will cure the problem.I don't disagree with your suggestions, but, sometimes users get very confused on what and how much to delete. Therefore, I try taking a simpler route.W. Sieffert Bill Sieffert
